Offline | This is not April 1st, that is a BMW statement, hence the information courtesy MINI UK tag. Not sure what that means for us BMW/Daimler-Chrysler powered MINI owners?! Good or bad? |

| MINI2 Master | Get your limited edition Pentagon-powered MINI today while supplies last! I've read in other places that it probably won't be out until the 2005 MY when there will be other redesigns. Just think how we'll be able to poopoo the Pug-powered MINIs ![]() I also read that BMW/MINI isn't dumping the Pentagon because it doesn't like the engine. It doesn't like a DCX engine in its cars, that's all. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! Offline | Parts availability Well, I guess parts availability won't be any worse than what we have at present in the US (given that neither Peugot nor Citroen are here). Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

| Tinkering In The Garage | Not sure what this means for all current MINI owners and near future owners, i still wish they had used the K series engine, a well proven power unit that was very tuneable. Time will tell just how good the tritec engine is and if not will it be easy to fit the Citroen/Pug engine to early MINIs. Ady (R50) ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | I thought the Pentagon engines fitted in the MINIs were here to stay! Why such a drastic chenge? I don't know much about Peugeot/Citroen engines, but at least the BMW/Chrysler engine has been around some time and it has proven to be a reliable one until today. French engines do not have that good of a reputation when it comes to reliability. Why such a drastic change??? Why??? ![]() MINI... Like all BMWs is also 'The Ultimate Driving Machine'... |

Offline | Re: Why the drastic change? Hold on everyone. You've got to remember that these types of announcements are very much LONG RANGE plans. For example, the MINI's current Tritec engine, and the joint venture with Chrysler, was announced way back in 1998!. My understanding is that the current MINI with the current Tritec engine will be produced until at least half way through 2006. Only at that time will there be a new model MINI with a new engine. Edit: I mistakenly had said above it was in 1997, but it was actually announced in April 1998. http://www.autointell.com/nao_compan...gine-plant.htm + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed Last edited by BruceK : Jul 23rd, 2002 at 07:10 PM. |

| heterochromic & loving it | The engine is shared with Daimler-Chrysler, and will presumably continue to be used by Chrysler in the U.S., so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. Besides, by 2006 there will be somewhere around half a million MINIs on the road worldwide with this engine. Between that and however many of these are being put into Chryslers, that's enough market to keep tuners interested. Just take a look sometime at how much tuning stuff is available for the MGB and the 1.8L "b-series" engine. Only 500,000 or so MGBs were made, hasn't been made in over 20 years, and there is an absolute ton of tuning accessories available... -Ricardo |
