Push to Pass Button

Reading the Toowoomba Chronicle I read about a feature that I haven't heard of before with the new MINI. Appaerntly there is a button like the Indy cars have that when pressed it increases the Turbo Boost. therefore increase speed while overtaking

If it is correct, It'll be great

Sounds good - much like the new 911 Turbo, it has an overboost button.

But seeing as it is in a newspaper, it may be wrong.
Our local paper had a story about the success of the current Mini and stated that the Mini Cooper S was only available with a 6 speed MANUAL gearbox - no auto available....

There was something about overboost in the press details...

Quote:
The engine’s peak torque of 240 Nm or 177 lb-ft is maintained consistently between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm. When accelerating, torque is even boosted briefly to 260 Nm or 192 lb-ft by a short increase in turbocharger pressure. Referred to as “Overboost”, this function gives the MINI Cooper S even more dynamic acceleration, acting exclusively on the engine’s torque, not on maximum output.

I was under the impression it was automatic/integrated from that - but a 'push-to-pass' system would be pretty cool

As far as I've been told/am aware it's not a button, it's an automatic "overboost" function. Maybe they are confusing the overboost function with the sport button.

bummer, I thought it would to good, that button could have tempted /given me reasonto update
maybe Mikey or GBMINI could make a switch to perhaps force it to overboost as well as the automaticly.

whats this sports button you are refering to Paul???

Sports button (checks this has already been released.... yep) is an optional button that gives a better throttle response and makes the steering more direct/heavier/sporty/realistic.

If it had an overboost button my first mod would be to wedge it on with a matchstick or chewing gum

I'm certain it will be an automatic system operated on WOT. I'm sure though that one of the initial mods will be a chip that switches this on permanently giving you higher boost throughout the rev range.

It was acceptable in the 80's

The Smart Pulse had the exact same over boost option in it. Hit the throttle and after about 3000rpm the tacho needle shot straight round to the red line like a rocket.

Shame it was only 600cc

The supercharger whine is definitly good but there is no reason that this new BMW/PSA Turbo engine wont sound equally unique. Especially when the induction kits start coming out and the inevitable dump valves.

Don't care, always wanted one and never had the chance. Had a girl in a Fiesta RS Turbo behind me the other day with a dump valve and a meaty exhaust and I must say the S sounded destinctly hairdryer in comparison
