a dealer I spoke to yesterday said she saw the CooperD last week at Oxford, it sounded like a launch car, as it was covered in graphics.

So I'd expect something to be announced very soon on it, if its an early 07 launch

Actually it is announced for "the first half of 2007" . I guess presentation will be at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

I guess the " new " diesel engine is the 1.6 HDI that Peugeot have been using for a while ? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, my mate had a 206 with that engine and was well impressed with it.

someone posted an e-mail they got from MINI USA, basically saying there is no plan for the Dooper to launch in the US

Now with "The Decider" starting to talk about curbing fuel consumption... I have to believe that after his reign is over there will be hope for the USA.
