Thats what a lot of people have been hoping for from almost day 1.
Everyone knows it would sell better than the standard convertable, who cares about it only having 2 usable seats .
I`m at a loss as to why they dont they make one ??
Maybe theyre saving it up for a R59 designation in 10 years or so
A roadster is not on the current development schedule which takes us up to 2009, so who knows what will come after then.
But when speaking the head of MINI design last year at the R56 preview I did ask about this car.
His response was the the speedster concept was drawn up as part of the development for the Convertible, and the 4 seater version was felt to be more in keeping with mini history, and also a more practical car than a 2 seater version and any of the competitors cars, and that there was not a big enough market for both. Bringing out such a car would just split their current convertible sales, which is the best selling convertible in the UK at present, and the investment to make such a model could not be justified if it is not going to give another model in the range that would bring in another customer that is not already buying a MINI.
And I have to say I can see the logic in that myself.
