United-States Uhhhh...

I guess it looks better than Subaru's TriBeCa monstrosity but that's not saying much, if anything.

If they stay with the 175HP engine it'll be seriously outclassed by the 200+ just about every other option in this category comes with.

What's next? The savants in Bavaria designing a MINIvan?

SP,

Take a look at classic mini history. There were sedan, station wagon, convertible, panel delivery, offroad, & several other variants.

Me, I'd like to see a Clubman with metal where the rear side windows should be. Would be

Mini Crossman?

Several blogs are reporting an interview in Auto Motor und Sport when MINI CEO Kay Segler let it slip that the new MINI crossover/SUV will be called the Crossman, and not the Mini Monte.

Mini Crossman: MINI Crossover To Be Named Monte Crossman

But they're illustrating this piece with one of the early Clubman show cars so a pinch of salt may be needed!

Post Crossman?

A news article on Pistonheads today has rumoured that the forthcoming SUV model may be called the Crossman.

Quote:
But despite previous reports it would be called the Monte or the Colorado, it now looks like it will be named the Crossman.

MINI CEO Kay Segler reportedly let slip the new name while being interviewed by Auto Motor und Sport.

Hope it's not Crossman, that's too much like the Crosslander.

I'm not sure if the name is that bad as it opens the door for a new family of long-wheelbase MINIs to follow the Clubman. For instance:

Crossman - for the SUV in 2- and 4-WD forms, as "announced," if we believe it.
Sportsman - for a four-seater convertible with 2-WD just below the SAAB and 3 Series sector. (BMW have already used the name in adverts.)
Craftsman - for a panel van in 2- and 4-WD forms for markets where such a format has tax advantages and for small traders who don't need large carrying capacity but want more fun on the road than they'll get from anything currently available.
Tradesman - a budget priced 2-WD pick-up version of the Craftsman.

I reckon those names just might work in the UK, where we emphasise the first syllable, but I'm not sure about the USA, where the emphasis is usually on the last.

Or not?
