I actually liked the original G & H reg MG (different seats & colour coded etc...), not sure why they were crap!!!!, it also had a notchy gearbox like the MINIs , while underneath trying to adjust the linkage with the biggest adjustable spanner that I've ever seen / had (all I had at the time), it slipped off smacked me in the teeth and chipped a tooth, almost lost my two front teeth

Never had one since .

Destined to live life £5 behind. Disclaimer Any advice given is my opinion only, if you decide to act on any advice / info I've given, it's at your own risk!

H reg burgandy Metro, 1.0 litre! My first car and it was in perfect nick...until the floor rusted through (after the door hinge fell apart and the whole radiator system failed). Apart from that, it was a great car with some great memories

The ONLY Metro worth having was the MG Metro 6r4 - and that had rather more in common with a Williams Formula 1 car than anything coming off the production line at Longbridge.

They had one of those in our small village Rover garage - until it closed down. Was a bloody awesome looking car, but never saw it on the road.

United-Kingdom MINI Metro

It's fashionable now to knock the Austin Metro (and MG variants), but when it was introduced in 1980 it was for that time an excellent small car. I should know, I had 5 of them over the years and they were economical, reliable, and quite sporty cars.

More than ONE MILLION were made so they can't have been bad. There is a web site devoted to the car:

austinminiMetro.co.uk - A British car to beat the world

Actually MINI METRO would not be a bad name for a version of the present MINI, but maybe BMW don't own the name Metro, I should imagine it went to the Chinese with the MG Rover sale. I know they got the Austin name, as they are considering using that name for domestic models in the Far East.
