I like the idea of 1959 prices!

Or how about the first car being built on the 26th August is a freebie to whoever ordered it!

OK, so the purists may not be in favour of the BMW MINI have a 50th anniversary celebration. However:

Whether or not they are made by the same company, they ARE made in the UK, and at least they have some "MINI DNA"! (whereas I think the new Fiat 500 is made in Poland, not Italy?)

Is there any good reason NOT to have a celebration?

BMC don't exist, they couldn't do a party anyway.

Their new MINI for free

or:

Their new MINI at 1959 prices

or:

Their new MINI at 50% of the order price

What does anyone think of this idea?

I'm sure I recall Daewoo doing something similar many years ago, they did a limited offer of their cars at prices of about 25 years ago or something, shockingly cheap.

Indeed, but for a very different reason! Didn't they do that deal where you bought a Daewoo, and then exchanged it free of charge for a new one 6 or 12 months later? I think it was during the time when Daewoos morphed into Chevrolets....

But my idea for MINI is nothing to do with shifting old surplus stocks of unfashionable motors - it's about rewarding their customers in an attention-grabbing way - and it is a lottery that only MINI customers could participate in.....

Alternatively, buy a NEW MINI in 2009, and BMW MINI will offer you buy-back at full purchase price in a further 50 years time?

See Phils post above....

It would be daft if the Fifty was launched anywhere other than MINI United at Silverstone

Just like the dealer fit JCW first appeared at MINI United in 2007 - Zandvoort
