Offline | New Mini Model Well not quite a NEW model, but a slightly different variation. When I went into my dealers today to order some parts, I noticed on the program they were using had a new 1.4l version of the Mini One. I asked what that was, and the parts guy told me it was the new model/variation. But him being a parts guy, don't know if it is entirely true. Never had time to ask the mini sales peep. Maybe someone can find out exactly whats going on here. Apparently the computer had the latest software on it - so new in fact that most things were in german. But good news for new drivers hoping to purchase a new mini as a first car - cheaper insurance hopefully. ![]() |

Offline | Sounds like the marketing people have been doing overtime again ![]() I agree that there's little to choose between the Cooper and the One, but then it's not much of a price hike for the Cooper, so if anything there's as much opportunity for the dealers to do a bit of up-selling. A 1.4 sounds like a way of introducing a model variant that just makes the manufacturing process more convoluted and more expensive. I would have thought that it would be money better spent if they found/introduced a 1.8 ally block, like the one in the MGF. J. |

Offline | The smaller 1.4 engine for the MINI One is/was old news. Several years ago, before the MINI range was launched, press reports indicated the One would have a 1.4 version of the Cooper's 1.6 engine. But when the MINI was launched the One came with a 1.6 engine, but the engine control software was used to reduce the One's power output. Perhaps this accomplished the intended result without any costly hardware changes to the engine? (e.g. no need for different pistons, rods, or cyl. heads for the One) + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |
