But still a welcome reminder of what the speculation was a year ago! So unlike last time, the midlife refresh will not arrive with the R57...but then could appear for the 2010 production year (from sometime in the autumn of 2009?)

There seems to be a growing feeling that there will be some interesting developments MINI-wise towards the end of this year (not forgetting the Crossman 4WD)......and that's after the mid-year excitement of the special 50th anniversary models.

Wouldn't it be a REALLY good idea if in future new cars came with something more modern than the ancient cigarette lighter socket for charging portable devices like mobile phones, cameras, MP3 players, portable DVDs and satnavs?

It seems to me it is about time that the USB and mini-USB interfaces were fitted as standard - and ideally one (or more) socket would be handily positioned for each occupant in the car. I see that the mobile phone indistry has just agreed to move towards a standard for phone charging, so why not car manufacturers too? (BBC article here BBC NEWS | Technology | Universal charger for phones plan)

Ian
