Any idea what variant will this be available on/set to?

And anything on wheels/special interiors?

HC would look fab on a hatch with a silver roof or something

Tease! We need more, much more!

Actually, I was hoping for something a bit more "special". At the very least, colours unique to the special edition (if not the body, then maybe the roof?). And maybe even look back at the colour palette of the original Mini in 1959, and see if one or 2 of those colours could not benefit from a modern interpretation.....

But I suppose it's all about cost-containment these days......

Not here much any more

Don't expect anything new, just a mixture of existing bits from the parts bin, maybe in different combination and colour and then a MINI50 sticker and some graphics

Shame as I had considered putting my name down for one, but if what I was told is true then its not going to be special enough for me

Yes indeed, Rakey - a 50th birthday surely demands a bit more effort than some stickers and a rummage in the parts bin!

I'd have thought a limited run of 50, each with it's own unique number? Or if that's too small a number, then maybe 50 for each of the 50 years of MINI - that's still only 2500

FIAT could do a special production run of 500 for the launch of the new 500.....

(Now, how to get BMW-MINI to consider a very special "special", just for Rakey and me?)

Whose 50th birthday is it, though? The MINI was released in 2001, and although I'm prepared to say that the R55/R57 are essentially a development of the R50/R52/R53, you'd be hard pressed to convince me that either is the same car as the Morris Mini Minor/Austin Seven. Although the MINI takes certain styling cues from the earlier Mini, and tries to evoke similar feelings, they're not the same car, any more than a Porsche 911 is a Beetle.

I would like to think we are celebrating/commemorating the birthday of the original MINI, in much the same way as the stamp that came out in the UK last week?

Of course, if whichever Chinese car company that bought the remains of Rover still owns the rights to the original Mini, I suppose they could consider making a limited production run (like they just did with the MG?) - and this would then be a "proper" 50th anniversary Mini....

What the heck - any excuse for a party!

This special Mini from Wood and Pickett is the nearest to a new Classic Mini 50th Limited Edition. I went to the unveiling of the first painted bodyshell in November at W & P, they had orders for about 5 cars at that time (The Mini Margrave is a famous W & P coachbuilt Mini but as these are brand new cars the name 'Mini' has been dropped to avoid any issues with BMW) :-
Wood and Pickett

Wood & Pickett Margrave 50

The WP Margrave 50 will be a limited edition run of up to 50 cars, hand built and registered in 2009 in celebration of fifty years of the Mini.

Each Margrave will be individually numbered and certificated with a unique plaque for each car. In addition, the WP Margrave 50 will come with a hand crafted leather case to house the cars certificate, sales leaflet, service record and handbook. We are also in discussion with Corgi to create a limited edition run of the model in a WP presentation box.

We have adopted an Italian flavour with the colours, for example the first car will be Margrave Rosso (red), other colour options will include Margrave Bianco (white), Margrave Nero (black), Margrave Verde Scuro (dark green) and Margrave Blu Scuro (dark blue).

Disappointed with the colours - was looking for something a bit more special as I am hoping to replace mine later this year.
