Alpina Mini scrapped

Just read in Autocar that the Alpina Mini has been scrapped because it would of been to expensive. £30,000 was the figure quoted. It was kicking out 200 bhp from a 1.8 version of the Cooper S engine.

I wonder was it ever really a definite probability for production.......I always thought BMW would want to keep the Alpina tag for themselves, as opposed to cross-pollination with the MINI !

I'm glad there's not Alpina MINI, after all it's for BMW's and the MINI is a MINI not a BMW Just like a Volvo is a Volvo and not a Ford!

Maybe they should let JCW's have the alpina ideas and plans so they can make a John Cooper Ltd Edition

the MINI has gone...

I was always told the Alpina wasn't a reality anyway.

So that's no surprise.

From what I've heard, the last 100 Z-8's to be produced will be Alpinas (which probably bumps the price over $170,000 )

What *would* be interesting, however, is an "Alpine" edition MINI. BMW could dump the low-budget factory radio for some high-spec Alpine gear.

Talking Don't Worry!!

I don't think it will be that big of a problem as the Cooper Works S will be released in Feb '03 and that is fully endorsed by BMW (keeping Warrenty in tact)

It's basically a 200Bhp version with a 0-60 time of only 6 seconds (bye bye Type R)

It's looking like it will cost around £18,000 OTR!

I want to order one now, although I've only had my Cooper for 4 months!
