MINI Mexico announces a 69 car special edition of "Italian Job" Minis.

First the news...then my opinion...

THE NEWS:

MINI Mexico announced today through a press release that starting the 3rd week of august, a special version of the Mini Cooper and the Mini Cooper "S" will be offered through MINI dealers.

The special version, which is limited to 69 cars (in honor of the year in which the original Italian Job movie was launched 1969), will emulate the cars that star in the new Italian Job movie. The Italian Job Minis will be offered in Indi Blue, Chili Red and Pepper White.

The special edition cars will all include the following equipment:

o Bonnet stripes.
o Driving lights.
o Aero-kit.
o Rear air deflector.
o R90 wheels in 17" with accompanying tires.

The price of the special edition MINI Cooper will be $41,787 pesos (some USD$4,100) above the list price for a standard Cooper.

The price of the special edition MINI Cooper S will be $40,508 pesos (some USD$4,000) above the list price for a standard Cooper S.

All owners of the special version cars will receive a special certificate along with surprise gifts.

MY OPINION:

If I wanted to buy a Mini Cooper and am willing to spend USD$4,000 above list price, then I would buy a Mini Cooper S for sure. The supercharger will make my car faster, the aero-kit won't...

If I wanted to buy a Mini Cooper S and am willing to spend USD$4,000 above list price, then I would buy a John Cooper Works package for USD$2,000 more....

To me, it appears as a clear strategy to clear some 2003 inventory...although the nostalgic idea of honoring the movie is nice...

Cheers!!!

Agree with what you have said there
It is a nice idea, but having to pay for all the options isn't that enjoyable
If you wanted to you could order a mini with all those options anyway. Like you said, might be a way to shift more cars in Mexico.

Its also not like its anything you can't put together yourself from the normal dealer options. At least if it was special wheels, or a different kit, etc.

Definetly a way to squeeze $4K out of 69 people for not much of a good reason.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

You are absolutely correct and that is exactly what I did. I wanted the look of the Chili Red MCS and I ordered mine with the Aero Kit. But I wanted white wheels so I kept the stock 16" x-lites.
