| SHRTSTAK is his name... | So I read in Car and Driver that at the latest auto show (Tokyo maybe?) that I think Citroen had debuted a 3 wheel motorcycle/car/thing with the new Mini engine in it. I'll try to find a link to the car and post it soon. Thought it was pretty interesting. -CE |

| SHRTSTAK is his name... | Found it: http://www.peugeot.com/tradition/con...0cup_fiche.htm If the link doesn't work, search the site for the concept car Peugeot 20Cup. Pretty interesting concept too, I must say. In the "Characteristcs" link it describes the engine as: "The 1.6 litre 16S petrol injection engine, a fruit of the collaboration between the PSA Peugeot Citroen and BMW Groups, appears for the first time in a Peugeot concept car. This supercharged four-cylinder with a turbo-compressor in this version develops a maximum power of 125 kW and produces torque that can reach 240 Nm. Thanks to its engine, which is still in the prototype stage, the 20Cup has an amazing weight/power ratio: 170hp for under 500kg!" Looks good. -CE |

Offline | Cool MCoop, thanks for posting. I actually saw this concept in the Peugeot showroom on the Champs-Elysees whilst on holiday a few months back. I had no idea they were going to put the new BMW/PSA engine in it though. That sounds like the same engine they had planned for the next gen MCS! Wouldn't it be great if the R56 was also uner 500kg One question though - what do they mean by their; "This supercharged four-cylinder with a turbo-compressor" statement? Sounds like it's twincharged, but it would surely create much more power if that were the case... ![]() |

| Waiting patiently for R57 | The new engine - in a Peugeot 207 GTI Here's an interesting Autoexpress article - it seems that the new engine will have more power in the 207 GTI than in the Cooper S, and it's a simple amtter of tweaking the electronics...... http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/62...asts_back.html Cheers Ian |

Offline | I was pretty disappointed when I got that Auto Express news. Was under the impression that PSA would be using lesser powered variations, and that the MINI would exclusively retain the highest powered version from earlier Prince articles.Oh well, may have to upgrade to a pug if the price/performance ratio is too much for the MINI to compete with. Offline | I've been saying for a long time not to expect it up too much in terms of power gains. Not that I know anything, honest guv. ![]() Besides, that's the top of the range 207, the top of the range MINI in performance is really the "Works", and that'll be quicker for sure. |

Offline | The reason for this is I guess that BMW expect people like you and me LMB to switch to their Works model - with its higher profit margin, presumably. So we will not be paying around £15/whatever/K but are talking £20K min. This improves their range at a stroke. "I get by with a little help from my friends" |

Offline | Yea, I would have liked to have seen a 20-30 bhp gain over the current model. 170 bhp doesn't compete with the current rivals (CTR, clio 182) and they are bringing out newer versions with even more power next year - leaving the MINI further behind. I know the MINI focuses on handling but anybody who has driven the competition will agree that they are also very capable around a twisty section. BMW seem adamant to keep on top with their M series and have raised the standard with the new M5, yet the approach they take on the MINI is very different and much less competitive. In a way the MINI is a victim of its own success. |

Offline | I guess people were just hoping that the original figures were a bit of a teaser - and the fact that another car using the same motor will have more power. And yeah, the JCW will have more power, it will also be MORE expensive. ![]() |

Offline | True, but Mini have had 10,000 Works owners swallow a rather huge bill for what is now the default power output for cars of this sector and size. I certainly won't be doing that again, especially as it won't be seen to be more than whats commonly available for £7k less (next gen Clio Sport - 200bhp?- £13k...? With further discounts probably too...? |
