Car Magazine baiting....

Sick of seeing bogus motoring stories in car magazines like AuteExpress and Autocar? Sick and tired of seeing so called 'exclusives', 'spy shots', 'insider info', and 'scoops' of cars that only exist in the minds of the photoshop experts.....?

Well heres the challenge. Make up a Mini Story - perhaps with a 'spy shot', email it to the editor of your least favourite magazine, and see if they publish it.

No prizes, just kudos for achievement.

Heres a starter for you from todays Autoexpress magazine. This is my car, and my words. Printed by a lazy journo who couldn't even be bothered to ask where the info came from.

I thought those wheels looked like they were from an alternative MINI tuner and shouldn't/wouldn't have been used on an official MINI product. Are they West Tuning wheels?

Based on them - although re-pro'd by the Dare X4 Mini2 group buy.

Hardly 'leightweight' either, heavier than S-lites. Still, wouldn't want to ruin a good fairy story.

"this is a first look at a stripped out 'CSL' variant....... while there are no rear chairs at all."

Is it me or can you see the near side rear seat headrest through the tinted window?

Other good stories could be..............

MINI2 the number on MINI website is being purchased by BMW
The lightweight is going to be badged as the M MINI or MINIM
Lightweight is BMWs project to enter into the Monte Carlo Rally

Oh there is so much that could be fed to magazines that they would buy

nice work Tony....

Wonder where I apply to become a "journo" , sounds like a cushy number... maybe the next step is arranging a photoshoot, stick some washing up bottles and some black tape on the car, take some grainy badly focused pictures and send them that !...

Ducking for cover

Yes it is a cushy job....I should know - I've been a motoring journo for 3 years! But I feel I have to defend myself here. Not all motoring writers are like the Auto Express lot! I have friends who write for the mag and they're good writers, but it's often the Editors who want to 'scoop' the others and will often make 'educated guesses' about things that aren't necessarily true.
For example, a great deal of the cars in the 'cars coming up' lists are speculation. I've used Auto Express as a source and have phoned car manufacturers to ask about certain cars they've mentioned and the PR people have said they've never existed and never will. And if you look at some of the old issues of these magazines, you'll find 'exclusives' about cars that have never been made (such as your Mini! ).
But we're not all like that. Most of us check our sources and only print when we know it's reliable. I agree whoever printed your story in Auto Express was clearly off his tree, but please don't tar us all with the same brush! Some of us are nice....
