For me, the 4th of July is really about two things.
(1) Reflection on the sacrifices of those who served this country.
(2) Enjoyment of the freedom they fought to defend.

To mark the day, Sara and I set out in the MINI to enjoy the Colorado mountains. This included 4 summits:

11,318 ft Fremont Pass
10,424 ft Tennessee Pass
10,666 ft Vail Pass
11,990 ft Loveland Pass

We also made a stop at the War Memorial for the 10th Mountain Division at the top of Tennessee Pass.

Summit #3: 10,666 ft Vail Pass

98 MPG... ok so it was down hill in 6th gear, but still...

Summit #4: Loveland Pass. Water falling on the left side flows into the Atlantic and that falling on the right side flows into the Pacific.

More proof that *everyone* loves the MINI

Summit run

Very cool. Thanx! Must have been a fun day. How did the "S" handle the altitude? I would expect the supercharged MINI wasn't effected at all.

Pretty much dead on. I didn't even think about power loss at altitude (loveland pass is nearly 12,000 ft) until I got back to Denver (5,280 ft) and didn't notice any difference.

Part of that may also be temperature related. Denver was near 90 degrees yesterday, while the temp at the top of each of the passes ranged from 64-68 degrees.

An excellent day with an excellent friend and an excellent car. Couldn't ask for much more than that.
