| MINI TOO: My Transportation Design Final I thought some of you guys would get a kick out of this...
Partial way into this semester, my 05' Cooper S finally arrived. At the time of arrival, I was trying to figuring out what direction to go with my Transportation Design class.
Our project was to design a hatchback for 2013 model year for under $40K. It could be anything from a mini van/SUV to a sports coupe like a 350Z. Since I was on a "Mini-High" I desided to design completely new model. Basically a small commuter carto be produced by MINI for the Japanese/European market, one that could be added to their current Cooper, Cooper S and Convertible line-up. I used the package-dimentions from a Smart ForTwo as a basis. Since Mercedes owns Smart, and BMW owns Mini, I figured these two commuter cars would be great competition. Mini only has the Cooper model(s), which is small by American standards, but as far as commuter cars go, it's pretty big. That's why I figured it would be a good idea if Mini was to take advantage of the commuter car market. Aftera all, MINI is usually what people think when they hear "small car".
The hardest part about this project was trying to design a tiny commuter, yet still maintaing MINI's brand identity. Plus, this is my FIRST attempt at designing a car. I did some sharp edged designs as well as some aggressive looking headlight treatments, but in the end, the round, "pontoon" style fenders and round lighs is what I chose to go with.
So here's my presentation wall (8 x 8 ft) that I presented to my instructor and class today
I named the car "MINI TOO" after a concept car mini created a few years back
The orthographic views using grafic tape, basically it's like black masking tape that measures 1/4", 1/8", 1/16", 1/32", 1/64" widths...
My camer has a wide-angle lense, so some of the photos are a bit distorted |
