Smile I bought a Mini!!

I just ordered my Cooper S last week, but I have to wait until the end of April for it to be built and shipped here. The wait is going to seem like an eternity! A question for all those that have had their Minis for awhile.....Is there anything that you would change or add to your car, if you had to buy it all over again?

Hello fellow Canadian. I've had my MINI for 7 months now, and sometimes I wish DSC was specced on my MINI. Mine has ASC+T, which works quite well, but I guess DSC would add a little more safety margin.

I would definitely get heated seats and the multifunction steering wheel again, its nice to have heated seats for those cold winter days. And having cruise/stereo control on the wheel is very handy! The Xenon headlights are very nice as well, but unless you're getting a Cooper Classic, all Canadian MINIs have it anyway.

Most people opt for the sunroof as well, I didn't, since I don't even like opening my windows :P What is your MINI's spec like?

Welcome to MINI2 Mom's Mini

Let us know your spec and maybe we can tell you what else you might like.

Personally I wish I'd taken the chromeline interior. But then again it wasn't an option when I bought

Question Details

Cooper S, British racing green with black roof. I ordered the Premium package, the Sports package, chrome line interior, Harman/Kardon Hi Fi system and the armrest for comfort. Also requested the roof checkered but am a bit undecided now. Any options on car alarms?

The car dealer told me about this neat site...http://www.gominigo.com/4436.html/
They make a glove box organizer that takes advantage of the cooling option of the glove box. Looks like a neat accessory.

Congrats on the car!
Two things I wish my MINI had are the auto. headlights (yours will have them, being an '06 it is in the Premium pkg.) and the automatic climate control. I had thought of ACC has being superflous, but with the weather in Calgary being how it is I find myself sweating one minute and shivering the next. Just to set it like the home thermostat and not bother adjusting the heat all the time would be nice. The MINI alarm is probably the best, but may cost a few dollars more than an aftermarket set-up - from what I have seen and read, the MINI electronics don't like being messed with, and you wouldn't want to run into warranty issues with the electrics being altered by an outside installer...plus it has that cool red stalk light.....

Congrats, Mom's MINI.
Which dealership did you go to? Seems to me in the Vancouver area, everybody gets the premium package. Even the cars the dealer has in stock has the premium package.

I recommend Gominigo's glove box too. Dealing with Alan was a pleasure.

You didn't order foglights. In Vancouver, if you're out on the highway any or going into Richmond, it can get rather foggy in the spring and fall (Autumn). I play hockey out at UBC sometimes and visibility can get down to around 10 feet. The foglights help.

The other thing I keep thinking I should have got was the heated windshield. Not a necessity but something I wished I had bought.

One more thing that happened when I bought my car.....I ordered mine with 16" wheels and all-season tires. When the car arrived, they had 17" Pirelli Euphoria's on them. In Canada, that's a $2000 option. The dealer tried to make me feel real good about that as they said it was their mistake so I didn't have to pay for the upgrade. However, this being Vancouver, and having construction going on all over the place in preparation for the Olympics, they are not an appropriate tire to be using for all around driving. You might need to spend $1000 for wheels and snowtires at a later date. ... just a consideration.
However, I am rather happy with the looks of the bigger wheels and don't think the ride of the runflats are as bad as some threads on this forum has made them to sound.

Can't wait to see pictures of your car when it arrives. Cheers!

Hi MINI Moo. MFSW comes standard with the premium package in Canada (I think).

In Canada, apparently they come standard with the MC &MCS. I've never had a car with that feature before and am looking forward to it.

I bought the car at Mini Yaletown and I've been pleased with service and the knowledgable staff.

I chose the all seasons with a 17" wheel. I've heard the run flats can't be repaired if they get a puncture and with those tires running $400 a pop, that's an expense I don't look forward to.

How long did you have to wait for your car to arrive or did you find what you wanted on the lot?

Welcome Mom's MINI!

You'll have your MINI in time for the (elusive) Ralley in the Valley in Kelowna. Our MINIs can be twins - a blonde & a brunette.

Come to think of it, I should go and see about the organization of that Kelowna meet.

See ya in the Canada forum. The Calgarians have kind of taken over, good to see people from elsewhere too.

Edit: The Sport Package that you've specced will include front & rear fogs.

I was quoted over $600 + taxes for the a Mini alarm system. I haven't priced any others out though. Till now I've been driving a van, transporting kids all over the place and that isn't exactly a car theft's dream vehicle. Thanks for the info about warranty issues with after market systems.

Considered the automatic climate control but like (I think) our weather is similar to that of England's, a lot of rain and not very extreme temperature fluctuations unlike that of Calgary.

I bought mine at Yaletown too. They're good to deal with. I had planned on ordering mine but they had one in stock that was pretty close to what I was going to order so they did some discounting for me to take theirs. On hindsight, I'm torn whether or not I should have did a factory order. If I had factory ordered, the wait was 2 months but I wouldn't have had to pay extra to have chrome mirrors installed and am not looking forward to paying 2 hours labor to have the rear foglight wiring installed. Strangely enough, my car has the switches. Just not the light and wiring. But the wait time from putting my downpayment in and picking up my car was only 3 weeks and that was my delay as I was waiting for some investments to cash in and pay fully for my car.

Actual wait would have only been maybe 2 weeks for the car to come in (it was in shipment when I put my order in).

Oh...the $600 for the MINI alarm system is pretty fair value. The alarm is wired into the cars circuitry as well, the motion sensor and jacking sensors are integrated fully into the car. If you consider getting an aftermarket system and include labor for the install, it would probably come to about the same or higher. So I would recommend the MINI alarm. I haven't got one in mine but will consider it when it makes budget priority and WAF (wife acceptance factor).

Our MINIs come with a coded key already. That is, the key has circuitry in it that must match the engine computer. So it is highly unlikely your car can be stolen. Vandalized and towed maybe....but not stolen. There are easier cars to steal out there.
