TLC question

I called the dealership on Friday to try to book the car in for a service. It's 12months old and got 4500 miles on the clock. Figured I've got 5 years or 50k to use these TLC vouchers... but I was told I couldn't book the car for a service until the service display was <1000 miles.

I want the oil changed as it's the same oil as from day one, but they won't let me. Also at the rate of mileage I do, well 4500 per year, I'll never get round to that 2nd oil service and miss out on it. Is this correct, or is my dealer just spinning me a yarn?

They said I could come in and pay for an oil change myself, but since I have a TLC voucher for this, I don't want to!

No it's true, had the same problem. Was told first 10,000 miles or after a year. Once that year came around was told that they mini had been found to be so reliable that they were only doing the service nowon the mileage and i've only been doing 6000 a year. Sold that car now on friday after 3 and half years and didn't even get to the 25000 service. But if thats what they say what can you do. Thought the TLC was a waste of money if doing low mileage but then found out the first oil service would of cost nearly that any how. You probably be able to take it in 1500 miles before it's due as thats what i done.

It's a reliable car, that's for sure Try owning a VW... meant to be reliable, but aren't at all. This MINI is!

Even so, it's a bit annoying to pay ouf for TLC to find that you can't actually get your car serviced and use those vouchers when you want to. This car's still got running-in oil in it and I'd like it changed.
On any other car without TLC, I'd be fine with this as a car that doesn't require a service every year is a bargain.. But having payed for it.. I wants it

Yeah that was my thoughts. I've paid for it so i want to make the most of it. I think if you drive like a loon the computer may say it needs a service sooner then the first 10,000 miles

United-Kingdom

Its sumat to do with the new modern oils we have, chemistry and all that.

The car is designed to run with that oil in for the specific milage.

Also its dead clever and monitors your driving style so knows when the oil should be changed.

My best tip with that kinda milage is drive it real hard and enjoy to the MAX!!! that way the computer might start to tell you to take it in every 5000 miles.

Have fun

Well, here's a priceless document for you to take to the dealer.

Tigger.

If only i had that doc a couple of years ago. Well printing it out now and keeping it for when my new mini is a year old.

Do you think if you actually spoke to BMW direct they would tell you that your local dealer should preform the service every year?

I tell you what, have it cleaned and ready, I'll pick it up on Sunday and I am can get it to the service indicator by the end of the month

Just as a favour to you, I wouldn't do this for everyone else

Been wondering about the TLC myself. Seems it's not actually as good a deal as I initially thought as I'd assumed I would get an annual service for 5 years but on reading the vouchers it appears it is dependent on miles.

What do the rest of you do if you don't drive in excess of 10000 a year? Do you stick to the recommended service intervals or pay extra for additional services?
