because if you were a car thief and wanted to steal a MINI and clone it, i.e, give it a reg off another MINI, where would you look first for an exact match and a reg to use?
For fear of cloning really. I don't usually blank mine out, but as with many things in life, you could view it better safe than sorry, or not worry about it happening to you (it's extremely unlikely).
I think the security (name and address getting) is the main thing for me! For instance I went a few years ago to an insurance website, put in NO other details except my reg, and it came up with my name and address for "identity verification".
Obviously this could be easily exploited, and I'm sure there are lots of other sites with this loophole out there!
I always think the risk is over exxagerated, your average crook will follow you home, watch where you part in the day time, or operate in other, less sophisticated ways. But, it never hurts to be on the cautious side.
I dont blank mine out ever...I see no difference in posting a pic here with the full plate displayed, to that of driving down the street with it displayed.
For any budding theives...you'd better hurry up, as it goes back to the lease company soon, and the gearbox is knackered anyways If you have any more luck wth our local dealer than I have...fair play to you
yeah im the same im not bothered displaying mine. they never blank them in magazines etc.... and surely it would be easier just to clone the ones on the streets anyway.
Personally i would blank mine out. It makes it easier for someone with exactly the same looking car as you to get some plates made up and go do driveaways from garages but with your reg being caught on all the cameras
