The current MINI v the Next Generation - Based on Spy Shots - Which do you like best?

This was a post I originally made in reply to a thread that was questioning the future of the next generation MINI, especially in terms of design, and it got me thinknig really.

I wondered, spy shot for spy shot, which MINI MINI2 members think shows most promise, or they like the best?

Really, I think it's hard to judge on unfinished products, but some people seem to have written off the next generation already.

What do you think?

Please vote, and pass comment if you have an opnion, and when voting, try to shut out what we now know as the MINI, and base your views on spy shots, as it we were at a public consultation on what new MINI we'd like to be produced.

The MINI we have now?

Or the one we have coming?

personally i'm really excited by what i've seen of the new car. of course to some people its never going to have the 'purity' of the first generation car but who's to say the current one is 'right'? of course its going to be a bit bigger & a bit heavier but it sounds like the new engine should be able to cope with that, & then some.

It looks like the interior is going to be a big leap forward over the current one in terms of style & luxury - i'm always a big fan of interiors, after all thats where you spend most of your time with the car.

Added some interior shots, but my pre-production current generation shots are not so hot, so maybe not so easy to judge on.

Current generation:

The next generation:

I'm really excited by the spy shots of the next generation MINI....

The interior looks fantastic, very ergonomic and of incredibly high quality! I'm liking it.

The exterior i think they appear to have right also. It's still unmistakably a MINI from a first glance, but all the new changes to improve pedestrian impact protection hasn't spoiled it at all! The back end looks a bit iffy, but until we see it without the masking tape we won't know.

I can't wait till the official launch, do we know when it will be yet? The Paris motor show is September 30-October 15 so it could be then... I think Motorexpo at Canary Wharf in may is too early to be seeing it on a stand.

I think even though its still early days to make a judgement on which is best, I think the new spy shots are very encouraging and there is no way a company which has invested hugely in a successful product would want to loose sales or customers.

I think the new MINI will be an awesome car that we will all want, even those that say they don't like will have to do some back tracking

I'm not saying what we have now isn't a great car and I am sure that it will be thought of very highly and possibly a classic of the future, but all things have to move on, and if we go getting petty over changes then we would all still be in a leyland mini

Has anyone else thought the new one has an almost 'Art Deco' look to the interior...?

Not noticed this before. Do you think it was a design goal or just a happy co-incedence...?

I have the same opinion, I love the new look interior we have seen so far, the current interior is what drew me to the car in the first place, this new one looks like it could tempt me back

Interesting, a few hours in and the new new MINI is ahead, based on the spy photos alone. Not really what I was expecting, based on opinions voiced in the future variants forum.

It does look more square/stubby, but then again, the classic Mini was very flat and stubby, it was only really the lights and rear end that made it look anywhere near as bubble light and smoorth as it did.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the new model!
