| A GinGer ****** | I've had my 05 MCS for over a year now and loved every mile of the 11k I’ve done, but I have to say there is a down side to owning one of these cars! Everyone telling you you’re driving an over priced German sack of sh*t and having to defend it and your purchase all the time down the pub etc... gotta say it’s wearing me down.. down to the point of me thinking of selling it and moving on...I have a classic mini also and have friends with classic minis these guys are the worst im starting to get annoyed with classic minis on the road specially when they just have to overtake me which I let them do but before they have get chance to pull back in im down two cogs foot to the floor and taking them back over.. I really feel like selling both cars (new and old) and having a clean break from minis which is a shame cus i loved the new mini from day one and wanted one ever since...... The RX8's have been jumping out at me saying buy me buy me.. Anyone on here traded there mini in for a RX8? If so any regrets? Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. |

| Trained Monkey | Sounds like it's your "mates" that are wearing you down, not the car. So, mates down the pub wearing you down, loving every mile you've travelled in your MINI. Answer, leave your bitter mates at the pub, and go out and enjoy a drive! ![]() There aint no party like my nana's tea party |

Offline | sorry but this is ridiculous. wanting to sell because a few people say it's german ****...and they know because...they have one/? i'm guessing not. this means that by process of elimination and logical thought they are , in fact, talking utter cack. if you enjoy driving it and like the car, then for gods sake stay with it. you're simply selling out if you don't and to a bunch of ignorant snoots. the old mini is a wonderful car but beset with problems which renders it a lot less practical as a heavy duty car to drive. just nod and agree with them and move the topic of conversation on. either that or move on and leave them behind. friends shouldn't make you feel like this. ![]() nil satis nisi optimum:blue til i die |

Offline | Sorry if you ditch a car you love just coz your mates take the micky, that's pretty sad imho. Personally, RX-8's don't do anything for me. Had one razz past me whilst I was walking the other day - sounded pants and didn't look particularly quick. James |

Offline | Are you sure your "mates" aren't just jealous? Go with your own instinct .... I absolutely love my Cooper and if anyone slated him I would just think "eat your heart out" because he is mine and not yours! He is just over six months old now and I just love him to bits (and he loves me too ). |

Offline | Your mates either like your car, but feel they daren't show it and can only take the pi55 instead OR they don't have a clue and are simply displaying blind prejudice. Exchange your car for a Mazda RX8 and there is no reason why you shouldn't receive exactly the same treatment for either of the above reasons; changing to a Mazda RX8, or any other car for that matter, will not cure the problem. However, with the fuel consumption of an RX8 you might be walking to the pub to meet them a lot more often Tigger. ![]() Unintimated and I'm back!! ![]() For sunshine, fun and Cornish Pasties: New MINI Kernow Cornish Oggy Run 2009! |

Offline | I've had the same from some people but the positve comments outway the bad.Generally if people are being really negative its quite often because they are jealous, and its a reflection on them more than you and your choices. What ever happened to 'if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all'. If someone cannot be happy for you its a shame.I had someone at work who had a new car it was a hyundai, perfectly good car but my first impression of the interior was that some of the switch gear looked a little cheap, my colleague was happy with it so i enthused about it and was pleased for them.Unfortunately the same couldn't be said when the reverse happened, apparently the interior of my MINI looked cheap 'oh and why did they do the grill like that cos it looks cheap, and those chrome light rings look tacky'.Its a sad reflection on society that a large percentage of us always look for the negative and often offer opinions when they are not asked for.Stuff the knockers(ooer) keep the car and ignore their small minded attitudes. ![]() Last edited by zyo : Mar 26th, 2006 at 09:38 PM. |

Offline | RX8's look great, but do you really want to be checking & filling the oil every second stop for fuel?? (this is exactly what the manual recommends) The motor still suffers from old rotary engine problem of tip wear - if you didn't stay on top of it, it could get expensive, very, very quickly. On the plus side, who wouldn't argue with 220 bhp from what is effectively 1304cc? |

| Yay to PW!! | I wouldn't get rid of your MINI just because some so called mates give you grief!! It is because they don't understand!!! No one of my friends have said anything to me about my choice of car (although they were a bit amazed by the price!!), even one of my friends who drives a modded Supra (386bhp) loves my MINI. It is a great handling car!! At the end of the day it is up to you but I wouldn't cave in! |

| oohh that was a good one | haha cmon man, ya gotta get some balls, give em as good as you get, do like tigger says and point out the not so great things about their cars....i have had the full amount from my mates, infact it was only the other week at someones birthday party that i had two honda civic type R owners (seriously, all power, no cornering) absolutly laying into my mini, giving it the old "ah its a girls car.....why pay blah blah for a mini when you could own a type R)...all i needed to say was that Honda's are the single most popular car for old people and they were like aahh eerrr well, i then kindly pointed out that the JCW MCS had more BHP, was supercharged so power from the word go, unlike them having to wait until they 6000RPM before anyhting happens and also that its all well and good having power on the straights, but its in the corners where it all counts...and the mcs wins hands down!!And its not even about power, mini is a cult status...i get so many looks from people driving through town, i even had some guy at the petrol station talking to me for like 10 mins about mini's just cause he had seen it on the forecourt...you don't get that sort of thing with other cars, no other car has soul like the mini does!! And you wanna know the surefire way to shut your mates up.....let em have a drive, i have had 3 friends go back on their words after taking it down some of the great twisty roads around the forest of dean, once they know how much fun it is to drive they can't argue mate!! But your gonna get flak, cause its an easy car to rib, but as has been said before, its only jealousy, those that know will give it respect So don't sell it just cause of other people mate, have some indivduality amongst the large crowd of boring car drivers the fill our roads ![]() |

| MINI2 Senior | My friends used to diss my MINI a bit.........until i took them out in it. A lift to or from work, a ride to the pub, going the shops. They all came round in just one little blast in the car. Keep the MINI, they rock and you know it! Monster Monster |

Offline | Tell them to get STUFFED!! Sounds like your mates are just a bunch of plonkers and you're playing right into their hands. Think of how much you enjoy your Mini's and then compare it to the negatives you're getting from the peanut gallery, no contest. If you are daft enough to buy an RX8 (uses as much oil as petrol) they'll find something wrong with that. So p**s on them and enjoy yourself. They aren;t helping to pay for your car, insurance or fuel so what do you owe them? NOTHING!!! ![]() ![]() GET OUT AND DRIVE ![]() ![]() ![]() |
