Noticed that some have an factory alarm option noted in their MINI specs. Is there an option for an alarm? I couldn't find it on my spec sheet. I know that there is an anti theft system that is standard on the MINI but its not an actual alarm that makes sound, correct? Anyone out there that can enlighten me.

Yes, you can order a Mini Alarm which is wired into the car's computer as well as several sensors in the car. You can even leave your windows open and a motion detector will pick up movement. The alarm is loud. Unlike traditional light stems, which indicate the alarm is armed, the Mini's alarm light is much larger and is located on the end of the windshield wiper stem. The existing silver cap is replaced by a large red light.

The alarm also works with your key. When you lock the doors with your remote key, it also arms the alarm.

Hope that helps. BTW. Installation time can be anywhere from four to five hours through your dealership as it involves the removal of seats and the dashboard.

Newer cars (the 2003s) I hear will come pre-wired.
