The most likely cause of your static buildup is friction between the upholstery and your clothing while entering/exiting the MINI. The interior of most MINIs is largely synthetic. Best solution is probably to upgrade to leather.
The other best solution (the one i do) is when you get out of the car, keep one foot in the car and place one foot out on the ground whilst holding the outside metal of the door this then grounds the static through you without you getting a shock!
With fossil fuels on the way out you could always put a bulb or something on the end of your finger and put the electrical charge to good use . sorry I couldn't resist , I also suffer from static on my MINI particularly at carpark ticket machines and I agree the best way is to place your hand firmly on the object ie door or machine and this will avoid the zapp !!

I get massive shocks off my car - a One 7 with cloth seats and carpet mats. As suggested earlier, I normally let my girlfriend get out before I do! If this isn't possible I get out without touching the metal bits of the car and then shut the door by pushing the window.
According to my Dad who worked in the car trade for all his life, it is the time of year! Static build-ups in the atmosphere and nothing more. I say, just enjoy the "shock" - beats the shock of the MCS drivers filling up with fuel!!!
I met my dad the other day and got the biggest shock ever from his car! He said he has had a few issues recently with shocks so the solutions suggested above would be very helpful... cheers folks
