| # Official engine break-in is under varying engine and vehicle speed and do not exceed 4500RPM/90MPH # Break-in means longer life. db followed break-in to the letter, and now has over 112K miles with great gas mileage! # We are going with the engineers on break-in # Tire break-in = about 200 miles/300KM # Breaks break-in = about 300 miles/500KM # Clutch break-in = about 300 miles/500KM # db & Gabe share S-10 stories |

| What the break-in period does is allow the moving parts in the engine to "mate" properly with each other. There are always "high spots" like miniscule hills of metal on any metal surface. These will create more heat when subject to friction such as against another moving part, e.g. piston against cyclinder bore, or bearing agains crankshaft etc. The break-in period is to allow these "high spots" to be rubbed down withouyt creating too much extra heat which could otherwise seize those metal pieces together. Obviously the longer you allow the break in to operate the better these surfaces will mate. |
