Aloha all, I am hoping to get an 'S' in the next few months, but I live on an outer island of Hawaii. The only dealer is in Honolulu, which means that for all warranty & service I will have to ship the Mini back to them, at a cost of @ $250 RT. I haven't gotten any more info from the local dealer other than I have to sign a release upon purchase to this effect. My question is: what are the warranty service intervals? I would hate to void my warranty over an 'oil change'! I have also tried to contact Mini USA, but I haven't gotten a response as yet either, and I am also curious what this means for the roadside assistance program. Any info would be welcome!

Welcome to MINI2! ![]() Doing your own oil changes will not void the warranty according to the comments of MINIUSA posted on this site. This has been discussed extensively. Please do a Search for 'oil and change' or 'oil and filter' or similar. Obviously you must use a recommended synthetic oil of the proper weight and an official MINI oil filter or equivalent. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed

Many Thanks! Since I still haven't heard back from my local dealer, or Mini USA. I don't have a Mini yet, but the salesman told me I could probably have one by Oct/Nov. I already know of two Coopers and one 'S' here on the island, but haven't talked to them about this. I guess I can live with the thought that I will have to go the extra expense and time to trans-ship the car for anything major, I just won't be able to pop down to the dealer if anything goes wonky. I have been studying the Faults and Fixes board, so I am hoping that most items will be ironed out before I get my Mini. Thanks again!

You know, MINIs in the US are sold with the Roadside Assistance Program which provides a free tow to the nearest dealer if the car is inoperable. Sounds to me that that would mean your MINI would be towed/transported from your island to the dealers at MINIUSA's expense if it was not driveable. You may want to call MINIUSA at toll-free at 1-866-275-6464 to confirm. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed

Many Thanks Bruce, but the dealer says no, its up to me to get it to the dealership. I have requested a response from MINI, and so far they have been vaugue. I have emailed more pointedly, and I am awaiting their reply, and hoping for the best!
