Has anyone here done this?

I currently live in the States and we have two LHD US-spec MINIs, but we're thinking of returning to the UK. We could ship the left-hookers back with us but they're not ideally suited to spirited UK driving and overtaking manouvers can be a bit scary (used to own a LHD Integrale in the UK before I emmigrated so I'm speaking from experience). Also, would a US-spec car be emissions compliant in the UK and would MINI UK honour the repair warranty & free service on a US-spec car?

Obviously the headlights and foglights etc. would have to be US legal, so importing a UK-spec car to the US wouldn't be ideal, but I could do a temporary swop for the US driving until we return. Also, anyone know how long you need to have a brand new car out of the country before you can bring it back into the UK tax-free (used to be 6 months I think ?).

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Similar dilemma for us - we live in Sweden soon to return to the UK. We're just going to hold on to our baby until we finally move. Having pre-arranged an RHD MINI of course to coincide with our arrival

Yep, search this forum with the keywords 'RHD and US', omitting the quotes.

It does sound like it would be more trouble than it's worth

Given the relatively cheap prices in the US it could definitely be worth the effort.
