Ban on car washing soon...

Was reading today that Thames Water have applied for a ban on car washing... you will only be able to wash headlights and windscreen. What are we going to do... i may have to start using rain water from the water butt... may even be better as not as hard and no chlorine.

We were under a severe drought in my state several years ago ... told even not to flush the toilets, restaurants didn't use silverware and dishes, just disposable stuff, no car washes, public pools couldn't refill ...

My neighbor used to collect his shower water and wash his car. Seemed a smart thing.

Currently we can wash our cars using a bucket not a hosepipe.

Interesting that Thames Water are now suggesting a total ban, but it didn't stop the theiving gits from pressure washing their own offices again last week............AAAARRRGGHHHHHHHHH!

u r not aloud to use a hosepipe but washing cars with 50 buckets is OK.

When I was at TW recently the staff had asked about getting the hosepipe charge refunded, they where told "no chance"

Hi all

Just to put my 2P's worth in:

Thames Water have NOT yet applied for a drought order. Trust me i will know first but it has been recomended by DEFRA that they do.

If thames water does apply the restrictions depends on what DEFRA say they can ban after a public enquiry.

At present people are able to wash cars using a bucket but not a hose or jet wash at home. Commercial properties are currently excluded.

Several water companies have already applied but the process takes 3-4 weeks for an answer.

Checkie

Ps Thames didn't wash their offices, they rent a few offices in a block and the owners decided to wash the building.

A week's notice would be nice, so I can wash my car in advance.

It will become expensive if I have to use bottled water.

There are some advantages to living in the not-so warm and dry Scotland, don't often get a ban up here! Lets hope for some rain to top it all back up again

i wouldnt count my pressure washer as a hose :P
when i rinse my car i hold the hose pipe in the bucket and chuck it on my car every 20 secs or something, works perfectly

Nearly, in 30 days Brisbane will not be able to use hoses. I always use rain water from my rain water tank. you don't even have to chamios it.
