Mini salute to all the managers/dealers/mechanics out there who lurk. As Ned said above, I think we should expect that any MINI folk would rather hang out and listen here, rather than say very much... consider if you owned a dealership that any employee on here speaking with your name attached is going to represent you and that's an awful lot of exposure. Better to be barely seen, barely heard, just from a risk perspective.
I mean most of us here work for some company and we don't all put our employers information on here--then we couldn't speak freely for fear of misrepresentation. It's not about paranoia--- I think it's great when anyone wants to come on here and advertise their service or products, but you have to be realistic about those things. One person relaying by word of mouth that 'Tom from the South London dealer said this on mini2.com' and some related bad experience, and you have negative publicity.

I respect all you folks who are in the business and just keep it under your hat while you're here. Whether you own your own MINI or not, you are part of our community and we welcome your listening or talking. If you want to fly under radar, by all means do.

MC

I work in a dealership, however my love for MINI started about 7years ago with the classic mini, I still own one and only use it on nice days as its cleaner than any of my showroom cars

So i thought i would just say hello.

Question Dealer Members

Is it a legit question to ask Members to own up to working in MINI dealerships?

My reason for asking is that, to be a member of MINI2 infers some sort of interest in the brand and product, ranging from passing to outright fanatical.

If other members know that there is a fellow member in a dealership near to them, it provides some small comfort of finding a kindred spirit, in times of trouble.

I appreciate there is sensitivity about advertising etc (rightly so), but this would be of some use to me, certainly and, I believe, to other members.

UNLESS YOU LIVE LIFE ON THE EDGE, YOU ARE TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE

There are dealers on here, some of them are open, whereas others not so because they don't want to have to act within strict BMW rules etc (tow the company line etc.).

You should get a few responses though.

I don't mind 'fessing up! I've been a MA (or BS ...brand specialist, that is ) since March '05 at the dealer in Calgary, Alberta. I would have to say my primary motivation for hanging about this forum so much is that in the last year and a bit I have become enraptured by all things Mini; the cars, the events, the extended global family, the people. I do think that Mini owners are a real phenonomen by virtue of their love of the car; I don't think that there is a parallel with any other brand. A second reason for coming on here would be that I despise your stereotypical know-nothing-about-the-product, in-it-for-the-buck type of salespeople, and I try to stay as knowledgable as possible - there is no better place to learn anything about the cars than here. Why make crap up when you can tell the truth? Maybe someday, if there were less shifty barstewards in the biz, when I tell people what I do they won't take two steps back I'm glad to be a part of it...

Dealership staff have to be a bit circumspect - but I am sure they provide a lot of usefull stuff, albeit anonymously.
