Comfort Opening

Hi Guys,

A couple of weeks ago I realised my S didn't have the comform opening programmed.

I called my dealer today and I was told by service people that this has been disabled on all new MINI's. He did explain to me why but I switched off at that point (it's Friday!!)

Anyway, I've been told they will program it for me if I want so I'm going to take the car in tomorrow and have it done.

Anyone else heard this?

Probably so the dealer can make more money charging you for it... Mine cost me £25!

You're joking, they didn't mention cost to me when I asked them to do it. I won't bother if they're going to charge, I don't need it that much

It's because some people have had issues where their windows have partially (or fully) opened when their keys are in their pocket and the button has been accidently pressed within range of the car.

It was acceptable in the 80's

my dealer asked when i picked my car up in Feb if I wanted it, said it was turned off by default. i didn't bother turning it on, for the reason Root Ginger said ...

they shouldn't charge for the reprogram, but i wouldn't put it past some dealers.

comform opening programmed

Don't have it done mate it's a complete pain in the ****!

I have come to my car so many times open and with the windows fully down!

its got wet inside
its got a FULL coat of frost on the inside one morning in the winter

I park it put my key in my pocket walk away then have to run back to check the windows and remember to walk away with the key in my hand till im out of range (which can be quite far)

I have to check the windows before i go to bed sometimes cus ive had my keys in my pocket.

I hate this feature (i think its purly for showing off) and yet i still have it :-/

Yep, mine cost me $50! They did other things, but the 03' came with comfort opening. I did get charged for it (even though I already have it!) but I like how it's programmed now because I have to press the unlock 3 times, then hold it down and it will work. I like this better because your less likly to do it by accident.

I picked my '06 S up on 5/14 and they didn't mention anything about additional charges for the comfort open feature, which was activated when I took delivery. I can see where some people would find it irritating to walk out and discover the windows rolled down, however I'd be even more worried that the doors would likely be unlocked and the alarm disarmed since in order to open the windows using the CO feature requires holding down the unlock/disarm button. Personally, it's a nice feature if it's activated, but I see no sense in paying to have the ability to roll the windows down with the remote unless you've just gotta have it to "show off".

i picked up my 3rd Cooper last year and it wasn't programmed either, i was told that it was disabled due to the windows opening on their own ( a known fault on earlier cars). I asked for it to be programmed as my driveway is a little tight and its easier to drop the window before opening the door to get in. When they programmed my car i got a new variation of comfort opening, with mine you don't hold the unlock button and window and sunroof open. What you do now is press the unlock button twice then open the door, as you do so the drivers side window drops, perfect for what i want.

Click on this link. Print it off and take it with you when you take your mini to your dealer. It should get the job done for free . Let us know how you get on.

Mines very useful and I use mine all of the time. Since I usually drive with the windows down and the sunroof open, it saves me time to just put them down while I'm walking to my car. Once I'm at my car it's all done, so I just get in and go!

Does this include the One? It only says Cooper/Convertible and Cooper S.
Also do you have to go to the dealer where you bought your car? My dealer is a bit of a trek, and it would be easier if I could go to another one that's a bit nearer!!
When I went to my nearest dealer before, they wanted to charge me £40!!!!

I've had my comfort opening for over a year now and it's worked just great. It's a really nice feature. Sounds like your trousers might be a tad too tight. ;-) As for it being strictly for showing off now you're sounding like a kid who couldn't figure out how to make something work and are just ****ing up a rope.

I think your right ! It is showing off, and all of us that drive around in our dream cars are just showing off. Whats the fuss about. If youv'e got it flaunt it. The whole concept of the Mini is " LOOK AT ME AND MY CAR " As you may have guessed, I love the idea of comfort opening, and I love showing my MCS off Too!.

Hey I not saying showing off is bad mate, far from it! Just that in my opinion that this feature serves no other purpose. (again my opinion)

Now, I would agree with you, but ONLY if your car does NOT have a sunroof, and if the windows are broken and don't roll down.

It's a nice feature to have during the hot summer. Everything opens up and the car cools off for a moment before you get into it. Then, once the aircon is blowing well, the windows come back up again.
Very handy in Atlanta...

England Hello Summer Time

If you can open your car windows at 30 yards, on a hot sunny day, just like I did today, believe me ! I think it makes a difference. Only for the sake of 2 minutes I know but it really is a nice touch. I have never experienced coming back to my car and finding it unlocked, windows down. The day I do will be the day when I will hate this feature.
Lets hope it never comes. I am now happy to say that my Mini is now sporting an England flag hooped over the aerial. Took it off the window mounted flag. Come on ENGLAND !!!!!

anyone experience annoying half down windows
you press hard but for sum reason they dont go all the way down and stop half way (if your lucky) or drop about an inch from the top making you look very silly

why cant they do a feature where two consecutive clicks of the open button drops the windows down completely - would be far better and wudnt use up all the battery life in the key
