How easy is it to get..

a new gear box out of MINI? the cars 2 years old, and its normally fine and i could live with it like i have done. And i know its a commen fault with MINI but it does get annoying when you want to reverse and it wont go in the gear ghrr So is it easy to get them to fork out for a new one or not? as warrentry up Jan, and i dont want to be forking out for a new one if it gets worse after that date.

If i were you i would go to your dealer asap. If there is something wrong with it they will change it for the new getrag box they are putting in new cars now.

I don't think they're swapping the Midlands unit for the Getrag box.

But Hyper's right--get it into the dealer ASAP. You might have to fight for a replacement, but MINI dealers are aware of this issue. Don't settle for the "They all do that" response--they don't ALL do that. My Cooper did that. I sold it at 28K miles, 8 months later at 31K miles, the new owners were up at the dealer--getting a new gearbox installed.

Just out of curiosity, the MC' use the Midland's, the the MCS' use the Getrag, correct? But do the new MC' use the Getrag (05'+).

Cody, you've got it in one. Up to 04, the MC used the Midland unit. Since then, the 5 speed has been a Getrag unit--IMO probably because the Midland unit was so problematic &/or basically unsuited to the MC.

Don't except the " it's a caracteristic " excuse, there just trying to fob you off. As your car is in it's 3rd year of warranty, it is the dealer themselves who will cover the cost. Insist they change it, and if they won't get MINI UK involved. Your car is still in warranty, so make the most of it.
