Programming Options

Hi Folks,

Just telephoned my service department about getting a couple of functions changed on the car and they said there was a charge of ~£25 to change any of the functions.

I've only had the car 2 weeks and wasn't asked before delivery if I wanted the car set up in a particular way.

I will get in touch with the salesman as they suggested he might be able to get it done foc.

Could anyone on here (especially UK owners) please advise if they've had such work done and did they get charged for it.

I'm looking to get the opening/closing of the windows with the remote instead of the useless remote boot release and the "follow me home lamps" enabled.

Oh, it's Eastern MINI in Edinburgh btw.

Thanks, Ken.

My S is currently on the boat somewhere SE of South Africa, and I got a call from my dealer just yesterday asking me what functions I wanted to have set up on the car. There is no charge, and you SHOULD have been asked prior to delivery.

Disgraceful that your dealer charges you for a 10 minute operation, that should have been carried out prior to delivery. Ring your MINI services number and ask them.

Cheers

Miniusa clearly thinks the dealers should be giving the programming options to buyers before delivery. I suggest calling MINI in the UK to see if it is the same there (it probably is) and then go to the dealer and tell them they need to eat the fee. A charge to make additional changes is normal here - I ran in to that with a BMW.

This is something I want to get sorted out before delivery on 1 September. I spoke to my dealer about it before (Harry Fairbairn, Glasgow), and they looked kinda puzzled, saying a few people had asked, but they weren't sure their systems were up to speed

Can I just confirm what the UK default programming is?

I would like the follow-me-home headlights and also the auto lock doors when you drive off. Is the boot release function really useless, and not worth having?

Answers please!

I can tell you what my car has on it. At least as much as I can remember.

1. Remote boot opening or not opening but making a noise like a machine gun would be more accurate.

2. Interior lights go on when you open the car with the remote.

3. Lights flash when you lock the car.

4. Window wipers go to slow speed when you stop if they were on high.

5. Windows can be closed by holding the key in the lock position but noy with the remote.

I also got my MINI from Eastern, and wasn't asked what sort of set up. Went back recently to try and get the windows to close with the remote (not possible) and also the lights to flash when opening (not possible). I know it depends on the computer in the car and it can only take so many options.

By the way No charge was made or even mentioned to me!!

and they were very helpful and have been so far.
Maybe because I've taken the car down a couple of times from Aberdeen to have some minor things done, they are extra helpful, but maybe not!

The sales guys are great and indeed have sorted this for me so there will be no charge.

I'll see what options they can do on Monday.

My dealer never asked me (though he should have). I sent him a list of what I wanted. Most of my options were the "default" settings made at the factory. The few changes I requested were never programmed. I suspected that the service department either did not receive the training or the software needed to re-program. But an owner of the Mexican Launch MINI got his car correctly programmed at the BMW dealer in Tijuana, and claims that the programming is performed with standard BMW equipment.

Go figure.

I intend to get this straightened out at the first servicing. At no charge. Meanwhile, I'll just have to live with the doors/hatch/fuel cap not automatically unlocking when the handbrake is applied.
