Angry Traffic Lights

I've just got back from doing the weekly shop at my local ASDA. On the way home, I stopped at a crossroads controlled by traffic lights. I was at the front of the queue in the left hand lane signalling left, and the guy behind me wasn't signalling as he was going straight on. As the lights changed to amber, I prepared to set off on the green light when the guy behind me tooted his horn. The light was still amber!

I've checked the highway code again to make sure the rules haven't changed overnight. Sure enough, the rules still state that you don't set off until the light is green. It just p***ed me off to be tooted by another impatient driver!

Has anybody else experienced this?

! Possibly.

I don't suffer that problem with A/C on my MINI.

Red, red & amber, green, amber, red.

Red & amber is letting you know to prepare to move off when green shows - not to move off.

Amber means to stop if it is safe to do so.

Who taught you, you should never move off on an amber light, if you get seen by the police then you could get stuck on for careless driving!!! just like its also an offence to stop over the white line on a Red light !!!

not quite the same but i was going to work in the week, in rush hour. came to a junction where i wanted to turn right onto a busy dual carriageway. there was a car waiting on the opposite junction to turn right onto the same carriageway. he had been waiting longer than me and so when the road cleared and it was safe to pull out i beckoned him to go first, since it is not a junction where both cars can turn right at the same time. the renault clio behind me virtually rammed me from behind and shoved his horn so hard he must have virtually put his fist through it. tit. he must have such a great job he simply cannot wait to get there...

Reason being, someone jumps off at amber, someone else "just makes it" on amber red.... Ouch.

He was commiting at least two criminal offences:-

http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/07.htm#92 states:-

You MUST NOT use your horn
while stationary on the road
when driving in a built up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am
except when another vehicle poses a danger.

and he was inciting you to commit the offence of driving though a light on amber.

Let's just hope the boys in blue notice the arrogant b*******d sooner rather than later.
