England Holy Grail

With the curtain about to fall on production of the present generation of Cooper S I wonder if it will in years to come turn into the Holy Grail as the BMC MK1 S became? With the large production runs it may take some time, however with use and abuse well loved examples may fall into the spotlight. I for one am not looking forward to the image the Turbo dump valve f*rting clans will give to the scene.

Good Cooper S?

I spent six months with a budget of £12-£13k looking for a good Cooper S, and quickly realised that most of them have been abused. I eventually gave in to the bank managers constant requests to lend me money and financed a new Checkmate.

If my experiences are shared by everyone else then you are right - a good, well-cared-for Supercharged S will quickly become a thing of rarity and people will pay a lot of money for them.

My advice would be keep them standard boys & girls - don't give in to the temptation to bolt all sorts of unsightly aftermarket rubbish on and you'll see a healthy return on your investment!

There will always be examples which have been garaged since day one, only used when the weather is nice, washed and waxed every weekend, no kids allowed, no eating McDonalds in it... the kind of car that only does 5k in its first 5 years.

We're talking about the MINI though - how many people can resist driving theirs? Only way my S Works would spend its life sat in my garage, would be if I had another S Works as my daily driver.

I bought mine to enjoy it, so that's what I'm doing.

Now driving a 2006 Brabus Roadster Coupe
PW/B Cooper S Works has gone to its new home!

We've one of the first in our family, and it's not too far from what you're describing. Will remain as such too, if I have anything to say about it.

Mine is now used very sparingly and has only ever been garaged.... when I found out that the Mk2 was going to be a turbo, I thought the MK1 may become a bt of a special car... it was then that I decided to retire mine from active duty and brought something else for day to day use...... I think this year I have only put around 1400k's on the clock.

It will be un molested early 163's in some of the rarer colours like Indi Blue that will probably be worth the money.

In a similar way I would think that an early Silk Green Cooper will be worth quite a bit in a few years.
