I had the back of mine sprayed by a paint teck guy (like chips away) after an attempted badge theft. Mine is solid black and I promise you cannot tell, and trust me, I've looked.

Bonnets are difficult, as they are horizonal, but vertical panels should be ok. Cost would be around £150 ish. A respray will be like £400 + if BMW do it.

If you can't afford it then give me a ring, I've successfully repaired scratches before and will have a go, put it this way, I won't make it worse. Firstly though, if it's down to metal you must protect it, use either lip balm (waxy stuff) that will keep moisture out, or, "neat" wax, not rubbed in though, failing that, insulation tape will work). Don't use anything that sets though as you won't get it off later, unless you are having it sprayed.

I'm only in Newbury so not far from you.

Hey thanks for the comments guys. I gave my MINI a 5 hour going over yesterday. Its like glass now but the scratch is still there. I tried loads of scratch cutting polish with my Dad's orbital buffer (he kept that quiet) but no improvement. So sad. I will try and get some quotes from different companies to improve on the bmw quote.

My mate with a MINI got scratched too this weekend and my other mate with a Fiesta got keyed too yesterday.

Think there must be something in the water in Portsmouth at the moment!

So sorry to hear this, mine got done both sides at work and i was completely gutted. I'm afraid respraying is probably the only option though. at least solid black is better than cosmos for painting.

HI Guys.

as Laura said, my MINI got scratched this weekend too.

I just can't believe that people can be so careless or vindictive enough to do this to my car.

Mine was keyed in a MINI showroom of all places - Cooper Cobham called me a liar... disgusting way to treat a customer who spends £20k.

The thing I don't understand about keying a car is the fact they don't get to see your reaction... and it hurts so bad All fixed now though!

Meep Meep!

I'm really annoyed for you and share your dispair. The same thing happened to mine a while back on 2 panels. I also have had my wing mirror caps stolen... twice.

Its cost my £560 to get the work done at my local BMW bodyshop and takes about 3 days. The paintwork in under warranty, meaning I could take it to the bodyshop up the road, but would mean that the paint warranty from BMW would be invalidated.

Laura, our Mini is solid black also but we've just had it touched up and it really isn't noticeable as far as we can tell!

Chips Away, found them in the yellow pages - just try them.

Hi Guys - Chips Away give some kind of guarantee, and won't attempt the work if they can't do it.

As for the gits who key peoples cars...

Sorry for your misfortune. People that do things like this really suck....

If you can't afford a proper respray right now, I suggest the following. Simply get a clear coat nail polish or a color close to your body color and cover the scratch. This will protect the exposed metal and keep rust at a minimum until you can scrape the money together to get it done right.

Hello, just saw this thread. My sympathies Laura. Our Mini's been scratched across the bonnet. Really deeply and about 60 mm long. My girlfriend was really upset/angry. It's pure jealousy from lowlife who can't afford a Mini, so they want to spoil our. Mindless *******!!!
