Smile MCS JCW #5 kit

Hi everyone. Thought I would make a quick post to introduce myself as I have been lurking on the forums for the last few weeks.

Just bought a used MCS JCW. Under the bonnet it says S5 on the JCW plate. I am guessing that means it was the 5th kit fitted at the John Cooper garage, as thats where it was originally sold from. Did any forum members own this car or know anything about it before I bought it last week?

Just wondering if anything is known to be wrong with it that I might need to get looked at. Already noticed the header tank is leaking around the lid and the throttle makes a funny rattle sound when held half way. Only has 26k miles on it, so I wouldn't really expect much to be wrong with it.

This is my second MINI. I had a cooper a couple of years ago, but sold it as the petrol cost was killing me on my 60 mile commute. I swapped it to a seat Ibiza TDi (180BHP) and said I wouldn't buy another MINI unless it was faster, so it had to be a JCW.

Spent 3.5 hours cleaning it on Sunday. Didn't get time to the the interior or wax it. Would have been driving it but noticed late Saturday night that the garage that sold it to me didn't put tax on it. Gits!

Anyway, I ordered a GTT CAI kit before I picked the car up and fitted it Saturday as it didn't have the extra 10BHP kit for the JCW already fitted. I imagine it will end up with a few more GTT bits and bobs on it in the future.

Welcome to M2

Have you only noticed this noise after fitting the CAI, if so don't worry, they do make a strange whistling noise at around 3.5 - 4k

Excellent colour choice on your old Cooper - just sold my VR/B One which I loved... definitely one of the best MINI colours ever, especially with the black roof.

Works looks great though - I swapped my One for a Cooper S Works and it's by far the best car I've ever owned. Plus it seems you've got something a bit special with it being one of the first.

Thats what I thought too! I think I have now told everyone its the 5th one made.

Went to the BMW dealer today. He says its had two drive shafts replaced, lots of squeeks and rattles fixed and a lightweight flywheel fitted. No idea if that last item makes much difference.

I suppose the sound could be the GTT CAI. I didnt notice the noise before I fitted it, but thought that might be because I only had my foot in one of two positions; full on, or off the accelerator!

That older MINI was a great colour. Some Autoglym franchise bloke owned it before, so it spent a lot of time polished and on stands at shows.

I'm going ot be after an Aero kit soon, then get the black bits painted white to match the roof on my JCW.

Quick note on the flywheel: Copied some text from a certain sponsor's website of mini2's regarding a light flywheel they sell. "Reduced flywheel weight will mean faster revving engine and hence a much better throttle response through all gears. The standard flywheel on a Cooper S is 12kgs, this Fidanza flywheel is 5kgs. This will make your MINI feel a lot quicker without uprating performance levels."

So it revs quicker, but doesnt go quicker? It does seem to rev very easily, but I dont really have much comparison other than with my old Coop.
