Not an S but my cooper has just hit 58,000. In the last 2 months its had new:

Flywheel
Clutch
Rear Wiper
airbag loom
engine mounts
cv joints
steering rack
power steering motor

at a cost of £1350

but saying that, mine is a really early 01 cooper, its Y reg, not even 51!

Earlier MINI's were unfortunately prone to a few faults, Alot of Steering racks were replaced under warranty I think for the "creaking/clonking" problem?

I'd still say keep your cooper and get a newer S (supercharged) when the new model comes out as the values will drop alot then

Thumbs up

Thanks for the feedback all!

I have now officially talked myself out of this one - I still have 9-odd months of Cherished warranty left on the Cooper so I'd really be a bit silly changing now.

Interceptor: I hadn't thought about the new model so perhaps that will be the best way forward. April next year could be a really good time to buy a Cherished 'S' - unless of course the R56 'S' is a dog and owners hold onto the Supercharged models. (Can't see it happening that way though!)

Agreed.

My old 52-plate One had 50-odd thousand miles on it when I sold it, still sweet as a nut - never needed anything aside from new tyres and wipers...

So I'm just wondering what experiences or opinions there are from any S owners who have racked up the miles regarding reliability and running costs. I'd be most worried about having to replace a clutch.

The car has a Mini2.com sticker in the back window! I reckon I know who the owner was and I've PM'd him to see if he is willing to talk about the car's history and his driving style which might give me more confidence in making the switch.

TIA for any replies.

i've got 62000 mls. . just checked the brake pads today and they're still fine!!! i bought greenstuff pads a year ago . guess i'll still wait. but really it's all about what kinda miles. highway-(very good bargain) around town ;short trips-(not so good).
