Offline | fuel tank Has anyone ever ran out of fuel when it claims there was fuel in their tank via the computer. I know these are not completely accurate but last time mine said it had 25 miles left (and the actual guage wasnt completely on the bottom) yet I squeezed in 52 litres and did over 400 miles! Seems to happen most of the time, does post facelift's have a bigger tank and do others find this. Please help me to stop worrying each time it gets fairly empty ![]() ![]() |

Offline | The big danger of running the fuel low is that the pump will drag the sediment from the tank into the feula pump or worsre still the engine. I have ALWAYS whatever the car, re-filled the tank at one quarter full. |

Offline | If you think about that for a second, does it make any sense? If the fuel-tank pickup line is at the very bottom of the tank, why wouldn't it pick up sediment all the time? Would it really only pick up sediment when the tank was empty? If the fuel-tank pickup is a little bit above the bottom of the tank (Where I think it is) how would it pick up any sediment at any time? Would it somehow pick up sediment when the tank went empty? I think this is a common myth, but is untrue. |

Offline | In that case go to one of the other BMW forums and see their experiences with sediment in petrol. cars have had filters for tha past 60 - 70 to my knowledge, having worked on them but the muck still gets through. You should see the stuff from carbs! |
