Same as the above posts the DVLA is the best place you still keep your old reg it's just not used till you sell the car on . I have a private reg and love it and to be honest some people say what does that mean ??? but its not for them to know its private and should mean something to you . Eg mine is S26ONS my birthday is september 26th and my name is sonia so s**ons

Exactly the same for me Sonia, as I have said earlier my plate is personal to me and to be honest I probably wouldn't be able to get anything for it selling it on but that means more to me as I know I could hopefully have it for 50 years (hopefully!) and it will still mean something

I have a personalised numberplate that was given to me as a birthday present which is specific to my name. I must admit they are a bit egotystical but I like having mine! It makes your car alot more personal and noticeable!

The only warning I would give is the additional cost of them when changing cars..I have had mine several years now and its £80 a time when you change cars!! I have just ended up retaining mine for over £100 as I am having to give up my lovely mini for a company car...another pain to put a personalised plate on!

If you aren't someone that gets itchy feet and wants a new car every couple of years they are great and no real additional bother!

I love personalised plates, can't get enough of them.
They are, however, just another car mod , some people have new wheels & graphics, others have plates.. From preference I'd have something personal to the driver, not the car.
These are my offerings (the only one I had of the Merc was taken on the day someone threw a concrete acorn through the rear window, it doesn't always look like that ).
