Question heatshield??

Just above my tailpipe and muffler is a bit of aluminum that looks a lot like a crude homemade aluminum baking pan -very dodgy crumpled thin aluminum sheet. I assume it is a heatshield but if it almost looks like a disposable aluminim baking pan. Nothing whatsoever machine made looking. Is this standard equipment or did they run out of the correct part and just make mine on the assembly line?

On every MINI I've seen, the disposable turkey roasting pan appears to be standard issue

Being made of multiple layers, the heatshield is more complex and effective at dispersing heat than one made of a single metal sheet.
Lightweight and stainless in construction the shield will last the life of the car and perform it's intended function with high efficiency.
As for the 'Dodgy crumpled' look, the chequered pattern adds strength to it's construction and stimulates airflow over the shield, and effectively increases its surface area when compared to smooth material further increasing its efficiency.
Cost effective, efficient and ultimately environmentally friendly.
Maybe you could forgive it it's ugliness??!!

Agreed, it does look like a turkey tin, but then how often do you go down the high street on two wheels??
