United-Kingdom Revised MINI Cuckoo Clock

Although the original cuckoo clock appears to have been discontinued, my dealer had one left in his display case that I was able to buy yesterday. Good as new and fully boxed, I even got a £5 discount.

As an alternative he did offer me the new 2006 version of the clock, but I wasn't so keen as the price was about £69 and the design wasn't as cute as the original.

Whereas the original featured a 'garage' pod at the 3 o'clock position, with forward facing garage doors, the new version has relocated the pod to the 6 o'clock postion.
The garage doors have been replace by a fixed perspex panel through which you can see the red Cooper parked inside (the car is seen in an overhead view).
Either side of the pod are integrated silver flaps - when the hour strikes, the left hand flap opens, MINI drives out and travels the circumference of the clock. As it approaches its garage pod, the right hand flap opens and the MINI parks inside. I recall the sound effects being pretty much the same, with the engine noise and tooting horn.
One special feature on the new model is a demo mode button - on the original you have to spin the clock hands past the 12 o'clock position.

I haven't seen this new clock advertised on the MINI site, so maybe they are planning an official launch to coincide with the 2006 MINI range.

Just ordered my new cuckoo clock!!! (Saw it on the website) I was offered the old one at a discounted price (tempted to buy both-but the new one is nearly £70) but the new one is so much better. Can't wait for it to arrive!!!

Fixed the link, sorry about that. I liked the clock, but it would be expensive to recreate that look I imagine!

You could have a high tech (from the 1960's) set up with various world times on each one.
