Offline | Friggin Potholes!! So there I was driving my kids to a photo session on Saturday, when 'BANG'. Christ, that was a biggie I thought, better check my wheel. Well the wheel was OK (luckily) but the tyre was ****ed. To add insult to injury, I'd just replaced two tyres the week before, Raaaahhh. Letter and pictures/invoice, off to Surrey council methinks, don't hold out much hope mind. Anybody ever had any luck getting some wedge out of them for damage caused by poor maintenance?, |

| MINI2 Newbie | anger I know that feeling too well! Yesterday some impatiant tit in a merc was waiting in a Q on a one lane road...instead of leaving a gap for oncoming traffic to get through he moved forward...thereby forcing all the oncoming traffic (including me) to bump up onto the pavement at the last moment. chipped my nearside front wheel as i had to get up onto the pavement at its highest point . i haven't been the same since and neithers my little car!!! ![]() |

| The Power Cube | I've been there before. I run on 18's so would NEVER bump up any kerb or similar. In that situation i just stop and wait for the merc to move. if he has blocked my way, then he's at fault. If people start to get annoyed, I will gladly get out and show them my wheels to enforce that fact that i am not driving up a kerb coz of some twit in a merc. It'd be his/her problem, not mine. oh how i love those situations.![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

| "I'm kind of a big deal" | Welcome to my world! I'm claiming for wheel alignment and a full set of four wheels! Only two were damaged but they've since been discontinued so a new set was called for. The council have passed on my claim to their assessors and looks very promising! http://www.mini2.com/forum/wheels-ty...hlight=pothole |

Offline | I've got the same problem at the moment, went down a pothole a couple of weeks ago and bent my two passenger side wheels. The problem is it was on the main road through trafford park (Europa way?) and its impossible to get a picture of the pothole in daylight as its too busy ![]() |

Offline | No way I would have mounted the pavement and would have sat there until the baffoon had backed up and besides it's a great way of picking up an on the spot fine if you go driving on the pavement. It's the same with emergency vehicles if one is coming up behind you, move over but don't mount the pavement as your breaking the law. They are trained to find their way around you. |

Offline | Have to say that, from what I could make out in the pic, that wouldn't even qualify as a pothole here in the SF Bay area, home of the worst roads in the country Unless the hole is a least 2 inches deep with a 4/5 inch diameter it's just a minor deviation in the road surface Still, I sympathize with you and hope you get repaid. With all the money they shim out of us for "Road maintenance" you'd think the least they could do woild be to actually maintain the roads.A car, A legend, A way of life |

Offline | Be happy if you get anything. Here in Texas you are out of luck. There is an unbelievable amount of road trash around here. I have already had two incidents. The first one did over $3,000 woth of damage to my MINI. The second time, a 4x4 was laying half way across the inside lane on the freeway. I was boxed in by a car behind me (tail gating) and one beside me. So I had no where to go. I went over it. In the end, I replaced 2 tires and one rim. The other rim was able to be straightened. |

Offline | Well it seems I'm not alone, which is definately not a good thing. Drafted a letter off to the Council yesterday, so I'll see what happens. sent them a couple of pic's of the hole & my tyre, must admit didn't think to use a rule though to try and show the depth. wonder if they have a ruling for minimum pothole depth .."Sorry sir, that's not a pothole at that depth, you need our 'large bumps' department".. I can see the paper being shuffled already..... |

| RIP Bella :( | i live near a warehouse where they store the rubbish removal trucks overnight, and they make a right state of the road leading to my house. Always writing to the council for them to come and fill it in again. But a couple of months later the hole is back and grown in size. dont know why the cant just fix it properly before it damages mine or anyones car |

Offline | Not quite. A standard dimensional piece of lumber here in the States. Rough size is 4" x4". Acutal dimension 3.5" x 3.5" It seems I never had problems with road debris when I drove my GMC pick up. Since getting Dixie, it seems the roads have become dumping grounds for all sorts of trash. Its gotten to the point where my wife has become a look out for road debris. I can always use her help when driving ![]() |
