Did you buy these products from the dealer? I spoke to someone in the finance dept. at my local dealer and these are some optional products they are trying to sell me on my new 06 S: 1. Extended Warranty for 6 year/ 100k runs $2958. 2. Extended Maintenance for 4 years/50k runs $695 and covers 1 more year of maint. 3. Lojack runs $1295 4. Silent Security Etch runs $299 if the vehicle is stolen and totaled. 5. Car Care system runs $995. A sealant that protects paint against bird droppings, tree sap, water spots and oxidation over time. Would appreciate your advice, especially if you purchased the item.

LoJack Car Security System for Stolen Vehicle Recovery It's basically a transmitter that's hidden on the car.

My parents just got a new car a couple weeks ago and the dealership price was $1300 for the lojack, however they ended up bargaining down to $995. I don't think it hurt that we bought two of them though (one for their car, one for my mini). This was for their "early warning" package that includes a little transmitter that must be kept near the car while in operation, separate from the key if possible. If this transmitter isn't present when the car is moved (stolen/towed, etc) it will automatically send a message to up to 5 different contacts, either email, phone, SMS text or pager stating that your vehicle may have been moved without your authorization. If you decide not to get that feature, I think they were going for $999 regular, so they probably would have given them to us for $7-800. Great peace of mind if it's available in your area. I also remember them saying that if your vehicle isn't recovered in 24 hours, LoJack will pay your deductible, but they're pretty confident that it will be recovered since something like 90% are recovered within a matter of hours. The negative side of the unit is that it can NOT be moved to another car as the VIN is registered and can't be transferred.

Guess the lowjack is similar to our trackers in Europe. A gps device that alerts when the car is stolen, and tell the police where it is. IN UK they varie in price from a few hundred upwards, depending in cover. The coat protection is definately a no no. Likely to cost the dealer a $100 or so, and take a few hours to apply. Buy some good kit, and clean, polish and wax it yourself. (I use Autoglym) As far as warrenty is concerned, its always nice to know your covered, but sound expensive for the extra two years, and as others have said, you can get other warrenty deals, but they are usually not as good for cover though, but far cheaper. No idea what the silent security etc is, is it like the number plate etching on the windows, making it harder to steal and change its identity? Or some finance shortfall cover if its written of and worth less for the insurance pay out than what you owe?

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. Got a call from the dealer that my car is here. I am in the San Francisco Bay area. Not so sure I will go with any of the products.
