Reports on Motoring File & What Car that there are 'less than 100 Mini Ones' available with production of the new One not due until next year. is there any reality behind this story?
I don't see how as it's already been said that MINI can produce both the new and old car on the same production line. As the cars are built to order too seems a bit strange to me.
Was this from a dealer trying to flog you a ONE. I remember being told that there were only two Mini 30's in the country back in July/August of 1989 and if i wanted one i'd have to purchase quickly, in the end i bought a new G reg Mini Flame but i noticed that they were still selling Mini 30's on H reg plates so i think the sales man was telling porkies( I know it sounds unlikely, a dealer not telling the truth)
I heard that they were running out of Ones and will be out of Ones for a while until the New R56 One comes out next year. This is the reason I sold my MINI One as they were becoming rarer and I thought it was a good idea as they are hard to get hold of.
I don't know what the final production date is for the current MINI One, but rather than running out of Ones, MINI will be running out of One build slots.
There will be a period between the current model and the R56 next year when Ones will not be available.
My dealer advised (not while trying to sell anything to me) that effectivly that is the case - they have introduced the new model and anticpate having virtually zero stock of old models to sell off. That is brilliant work by BMW, normally a new model comes out and for months after a dealer is flogging the old one cheap as no one wants it.
So yes Hat, what you say may well be accurate - or it may be a dealer flowering the actual numbers a bit to aid selling, but the principle is correct.
yes it is true has been like this for awhile now, good few months if not more. Better keep my ONE locked up! just knew this would happen as the new ONE isnt comming out to next year!
I was in my dealers on Saturday and asked about this, they showed me the available ONEs on the computer ........ all 17 of them ........... and the 82 Coopers !
If I was MINI, and I had only a finite number of build slots, I'd definitely be choosing to build the higher "yield" variants like the S and cooper Smart buisiness.
This is interesting. I went into local dealers about three weeks ago and was told I couldn't order a One as they are not making them any more. So I presume he was actually lying as he did not check the computer or even try to locate one...
He then (admittedly, at my request) priced up a new R56 Cooper for me which took me over my financial limit - but sowed the seed of desire...
Still have not ordered however as am waiting for re-engineered drive; no point in ordering the car before I know whether it can go in the garage (although I nearly gave in during this last visit above and thought "what the hell").
He may not have been lying at all... your dealer will have been given an allocation of 'One' build slots, and if these have all been used and specc'd he won't be able to spec one for you.
Ring round a few dealers as not all will have used up their allocations.
