![]() The Muffin Man | I thought the exact same thing. Thing that gets to me aswell with those roadworks is, arent they meant to be replacing the pink tarmac like they did further up the motorway? I Believe this to be true, which makes me wonder, whats the need for the 40mph section being as long as it is? It stretches way way onto the black tarmac! But back to the topic, I agree, if i had to drive at that speed all the time on the motorway, i would fall asleep too. and also have to give up my job as it takes me an hour at present each way ![]() It wont happen though |

Offline | I hope you're right but i doesn't seem to be stopping them at the moment. Unfortunately i've seen a survey somewhere recently that stated that people wouldn't stop using their cars even if the costs doubled, that sort of thing makes for good reading for the government because they know they can keep on robbing the motorists to prop up their half baked ideas. ![]() |

Offline | I thought that the majority of road deaths were not on motorways,so it seems a little odd to try to reduce deaths by limiting speeds on motorways, sometimes things are put out of perspective, if death rates are of concern why has so little been done in areas such as MRSA in hospitals, or death rates caused by police persuits (which I believe is quite high taken as a % of total) indeed its hard to get number specifics such as since spending millions on putting speed bumps around schools(yes it is horrific to think of kids being run over)but could more have been achieved by having proper road surfaces on our roads for example, no government seems to qualify any of its road safety campaigns in terms of specific reductions only general total numbers, |

Offline | Exactly, the whole thing is rather silly. Two MPs are not able to instigate change that easily. AutoExpress must have been rather short of stories to report on. The reality would be that everyone would still try to drive the same distances as before (e.g. 500 miles a day) except it would take much longer, everyone would be so much more tired, and therefore it is possible roads could become more dangerous. In addition, changing speed limits from mph to kph would be expensive despite the claims of the MPs as speedometers in all cars would have to be changed. This is no simple job. ![]() |

Offline | Majority of cars couldn't cope with 20mph - 50mph limits. I found it hard in 1.3 8v fiesta sitting at30mph never mind 20mph in a MC. Turbo cars are going to suffer. ![]() On my way to 240 |
