Offline | Paint chip on door I've had my PW/B MCS for just over 5 months and some nice person has just opened their door onto mine and chipped the paint. I always try to park in safe places but I knew it would happen eventually. Doesn't make it any less annoying though. |

Offline | Welcome to MINI2! Shame about your mini. Ours got dented by a car door whack after 5 weeks. Didn't break the paint though. Then got a ding on the other side too. Both rear panels. Got to get one of them paintless dent removal people out to sort them out. About £75 a panel though!![]() |

Offline | This is one of those things that really gets up my nose. I have an indie blue / white MC, full leather, aero kit etc etc, i've had it for 2 1/2 years old now, but after having it for only 1 week, some a**hole chipped by paint work on the passenger door. To make thing's worse, the car park was virtually empty, but the idiot still had to park right next to me. Why do some people have so little respect for other peoples property I now park over 2 parking spaces whenever i can ! |

Offline | That's good advice Biscuit79, park next to another Mini or at least a well looked after other model if you can. I also do what spikeyadreian does, if I can, park over 2 spaces. |

Offline | I'm completely paranoid about this. I feel your pain, DaiB. I always park out in the boonies whenever I can and inspect my car from all angles when I come back (not that this does any good). Taking 2 spots here would most likely result in someone running their key along the side of my car. People in the US are not nice when it comes to parking spaces. |

| Are we nearly there yet? | I also got 2 dings on my drivers door. Both are the same shape and height, so I'm looking to find out who I may have parked next to twice in one week! But I'm beginning to wonder - is the MINI especially vulnerable to dings like this? Ian |

Offline | Someone commented to me that the wide open expanse of flat sheet metal on the doors was just begging for a door ding. I guess the designers at MINI should have included some god-awful monstrous plastic trim pieces to catch wayward doors and make the MINI as *****-ugly as a typical domestic. -M |

Offline | I had only had my brand new Cooper a couple of weeks and a stupid woman opened her door (in an Audi TT - never park next to one of those because they are driven by people who think they are something special, but they aren't!) and it actually hit my door handle denting it! Apart from physically pulling her from her seat, along with her yappy dog, and me getting done for actual bodily harm on her, she wasn't having any of it. It is really annoying - but that is an understatement - and like you I am really fussy where I park. Unfortunately that is not always practical but I would rather walk an extra 500 yards than squeeze into a parking space that is too tight. At the end of the day ... these things do happen although they shouldn't! ![]() |

Offline | Most cars do have a plastic trim along the side to prevent this happening. The mini looks great without it, but I guess it does leave it wide open to being whacked. There is a magnetic set of strips to put down the side that I've seen, that you could just put on when you park, and take off again when you leave. A lot of effort though! ![]() |
