Road Tax

I have noticed that for a twelve month period there is a considerable difference in road tax charges between a Mini one, Cooper & Cooper S.......For a Cooper my son pays £125, For a Cooper S I pay £190
What do you pay for twelve months?

I just ordered a New Mini Cooper S today (excited ) & because the fuel emissions have dropped so much the car has now fallen into the £125 bracket!! Pretty good eh!!!

I would have thought so. Cooper Works = more power = more emissions?? I'm not 100% sure but I guess it would make sense.

My sister has an S and she pays £190!!!!!!!!

the really annoying thing is I have a ONE and also have to pay £190 as it is an auto

oh and the damn icing on the cake - my dad who is the one with the 'gas guzzling' over 4ltr jeep only pays £125 as it is older

Nope, they're both £190.00 a year.

Once an engine has been tested for emissions by the manufacturer and the tax band is set it doesn't matter what modifications you do as the DVLA never check!

Going into 'Anorak Mode' for a bit, the current Vehicle Excise Duty rates for the MINI range are:

R50/R52/R53
One - £125
One Convertible - £150
One D - £110
Cooper - £150 (Although, bizarrely, early cars are still £125)
Cooper Convertible - £150
Cooper S - £190
Cooper S Convertible - £190

(All Automatic - £190)

R56
Cooper - £100
Cooper S - £125

(Automatic rates have still not been announced!)

Yeah, my Cooper is only £125. Something must have changed post-facelift.

Is the pre-facelift Cooper a different engine? Bit before my time!

It was when MINI did the facelift of the Cooper that the tax went up.

Something to do with the new gearbox meaning the car produces more emissions that took it over into the next car tax bracket.

I wouldn't go advertising that too much, it's illegal to drive a car on disabled tax without the person who qualifies for it actually being in the car.

And I hope you don't abuse the parking?
