Offline | Nobody gets done for failing to display, these days. You may get stopped, and if you don't have the disc on you, a police officer may report you to the DVLA, but once someone checks on the computer, it'll show you're taxed and that's the end of it. You'll notice a large number of bikes don't have their tax discs on display. |

Offline | The beauty of the new system, yes BUT they still have the power to nick you on failure to display, the law hasn't changed I don't think, so be nice (UGG) to them if you are not ... that's all really, what's your problem? ![]() |

| Run out of ideas... | It's fairly complicated now, as all cars registered on or after 1 March 2001 are taxed based on their emissions and fall in to one of 6 bands (or 7 for cars registered on or after 23 March 2006) Basically, petrol cars range from £0.00 (yes, FREE) to £210.00 per year, with diesel cars ranging from £0.00 to £215.00. All the information is on here: The cost of vehicle tax for cars, motorcycles, light goods vehicles and trade licences : Directgov - Motoring |

Offline | Yes I know - we haven't got the kit car now so not an issue. And I have a new tax disc holder that cannot hold more than one so put the disc at the door to remind me to take it! ![]() |

| MINIMAT | If everyone paid their share the taxes wouldn't be so high. Particularly car insurance which is higher than it should be to cover those who don't pay. For years I couldn't afford to drive so I went to work by bycycle or bus . Why should others get away with it? Having a car is NOT a right. My car tax is up at the end of the month. I can't really afford it with Christmas coming up but I'll pay because I'm honest. |

| Bring the noise | I would burn them to, and their cars ! They are just lowlifes who in a lot of cases have no MOT or insurance and are putting other people at risk. We do not deserve to be so highly taxed 'cos we report those who offend. So the nation that deserves the lowest taxes is who exactly ? Somwhere where you don't pay for what you use ? |

| Bring the noise | Well the car in my village which dispalys a tax disc dated Jan 05 is still being used. At least he has replaced the bald tyres with some ropey remoulds. Just incredible this guy has left such an ancient disc in the windscreen and even more incredible that after 3 reports it's not been recycled into tin cans. |

Offline | I have watched with interest the DVLA ads, lauding their new computerised car registration computer (err, was this not supposed to have been set up in the mid 70's?). Unfortunately, it seems to me (but I am a mere mortal, not a civil servant) that the sort of scrotes who do not tax their cars, and do not have insurance, intellectually challenged as they may be, are not stupid enough to actually register their real address with the DVLA. Hence, the DVLA actually do not know who "you" are if you are a crook. ![]() |

Offline | Bottom line is it's a legal requirement to have road tax. In my expereince in this subject, (I've had a little) as already mentioned if people can't be bothered to pay for tax, they can't be bothered to pay for insurance, licences, repaires, ect ect. Plus everyone knows that insurance companies will use the slightest excuss NOT to pay out on claims even if the car is insured. Lets say something like it was not taxed or registered 'sawn' and as so was being driven illegally. I have a work collegue who is having trouble claiming against a van driver who rear ended her car for precisely this reason. I don't beleive the tax system is fair since the changes, but they are there, and it has to be paid. If you don't agree with it, change it by votes, not getting the rest of us to pay the difference. (I'll get off my soap box now. )![]() |

Offline | Interesting question. Now if the Numpties at the DVLA were doing their job like they advertise they do, these tax dodgers would be caught. They don't so depend on others to do their job for them. Funny how people in jobs like these can get away with not doing their job properly. Probably get a bonus for being incompetent too. Just like our greedy grasping MPs & MSPs. Also, do you honestly believe that if everyone paid their taxes, taxes would go down? Not with this government they wouldn't. The Tories weren't much use either. They put VAT up to 17.5%. morrisminiminor |

Offline | This is true but I'm assuming as soon as the offending driver commits an offence and the DVLA recognises a false address is held, the registration plate is entered onto the database which the new cameras in police cars use which can scan numberplates of all cars passing them in traffic. Well I hope anyway. |
