"Good for a couple of shopping bags"....

Does it bug anyone else that almost every (lazy) review of the MINI (current and new generation) has to comment how the boot is "tiny", and only "good for a couple of shopping bags"?

I mean, maybe I just live in Lilliput Land and never realised, but I can get many full bags of shopping (even when I do a really BIG shop I rarely use the rear seats) into the boot, and back in the days when Alfie was in a buggy a fair amount of the time, we bought one that fit the boot too.

And for goodness sake, look at the size of the car, it's tiny compared to most of the medium sized hatch backs it's compared to in "group tests" these days, and the interior space, for the people up front in particular, is really impressive.... Where do they expect this space to come from?!?

Maybe it's becase I went from Minis to MINIs (with others along the way, like a 205 GTI, like a minivan for me I guess?!?) I've never had a problem with the space, even boot space of the MINI. Sure it's small, but it's NOT tiny, and for goodness sake, if you buy a MINI/Mini, what are you expecting?

Gah. I dispare.

Even some 7 seater people carrires are cramped inside. As most only seem to carry no more than 2 people and have a Halfords roof-top-box fitted.

I think the main thing, apart from it's stating the obvious about the boot being small (not tiny!), is it makes me wonder where these people must shop that gives them such over-sized shopping bags, I mean, we're talking what, 80 litre shopping bags?!

I saw WHAT comparing a Mini boot to that of an Audi A3... They are two different types of car so of course the A3 will have the bigger boot... I tell you what though, the difference in space for front passengers is not that different.

Im always dead chuffed when i fit nearly £70 of shopping in the boot - all it takes is careful packing! Im sure people look and think "that will never all fit in"!

The number of big cars (even 4 x 4s) I've been in and thought "this is cramped" since owning the MINI is incredible, especially in terms of front seats, but sometimes I even sit in the back and think "this is nearly as small as the MINI?!".

Agree.

Sit 3 adults in the rear seats of a Discovery (old style) and sit the same 3 adults in the rear of a Freelander. The Discovery is cramped compared to the Freelander, yet which is the bigger car!

At least you can fit a baby seat in the Disco, which is the reason someone I know gave to justify buying one!

With you all the way, Paul!

I didn't actually buy my MINIs based on concerns over how I'd get the weekly grocery shopping into them, and I doubt many others do either.

By the way, you aren't starting to turn into a Victor Meldrew, are you? It's not like you to start a new thread just so you could have a good moan!!!

I completely agree, Paul. When I was at university, me and a friend used to get virtually all our shopping in the boot. It's deceptively spacious! Journalists shouldn't comment on it; it's simply a feature of the MINI.

I take it Mrs Baldrick never looks on here and is thus unlikely to find out how brave you are?

just asked the missus and she says that when she does the weekly shop that she fills the boot and a bit . so some on the back seat....damn i wish i had read all these journalists reports about a small boot, i would have bought an astra instead!!

but then again you cant take the roof off an astra and compared to the mini the astra's rubbish.

you can buy recyclable shopping bags from lakeland plastics, 2 of which fit perfectly in the boot

... apparently
