Changes to MINI TLC & TLC XL

MINI managed to keep this one quiet!

Just received the new TLC brochures from MINI, and the package has been changed.

For £150.00 you will now be covered for the 1st Oil Service (2yrs/10,000miles) 1st Brake Fluid Change (2yrs) and 1st Inspection 1 (4yrs/25,000miles) so the 2nd Oil Service is now not included.

TLC XL now covers the 2nd Oil Service (that used to be covered by standard TLC!), 2nd Brake Fluid Change and 1st Inspection II, and this has gone up to £380.00.

Yet another cost-cutting exercise for the new model!

"1st Oil Service (2yrs/10,000miles) 1st Brake Fluid Change (2yrs) and 1st Inspection 1 (4yrs/25,000miles)"

Who seriously only drives 25,000 in 4 years. Most people will be at this point in the servicing schedule within 2. So is it that the standard TLC package may only cover MOST people for 2 to 3 years or will it vary now the new engines need less maintaining?

Not so much cost cutting, more like money grabbing. And I guess this will be the same on all Convertibles sold from now too?

Good point, hadn't thought about that.

The information does just say R56 models, so will check with MINI and post their reply (unless anyone else knows for sure and beats me to it!)

Another reason (of many) why I'm glad I made the decision to by a MK1 this year then!

Suppose we have to look at it is still good value compared to what most manufacturers are offering, isn't it?

It is good value, but it is still a bit of a poke in the eye when MINI have made such a huge fuss about how the servicing times (and therefore costs) of the new MINI are so much lower than the previous model.

(17 November 2006. Launch Day. Starts referring to R50/R53 as 'previous' instead of 'current' model!)

At £380, tlc is no longer worth having IMHO, 1st Oil Service (2yrs/10,000miles) 1st Brake Fluid Change (2yrs) and 1st Inspection 1 (4yrs/25,000miles) ain't going to cost £380.00 surely.

Scrogg whats your opinion on what Dean said above? Would it still work out cheaper to pay the £380 than the individual payments for the difference services?

MINI Inspection II is about £350.00 (more at some dealerships) so TLC XL is outstanding value, as it gives you an Oil Service and Brake Fluid Change for £30.00.

The decision will obviously be affected by whether or not you intend to have your R56 maintained by a MINI dealership after the first three visits?

£350 for an inspection II service, yeah you are right that would be about right, dear but about right for BMW.

You can only buy TLC within the first 30 days of a new car being registered.

TLC XL can be bought at the same time (if you know you will keep the car long enough or do enough miles to need it) or between TLC running out, and the next service being due.

TLC XL can also be bought by subsequent owners of the car, again between TLC running out and the next service being due.

Regardless of whether you use the 'free' services or not, puting TLC on a new car is essential, as if you do not have it you will be hit very hard by the reduced part exchange value.

I may seek legal advice over this. I was told TLC is the same for the R56 (new cars).

My email to the dealer:

-------

Just been advised to take out the TLC XL as this covers Inspection II etc.

However I know its not your fault (your great) but I would be grateful if you could contact Mini on my behalf expressing my disappointment in having to pay an extra £280 for something that we was not made aware of, simply because yourself and other dealers at the time didn't have the information available. I would suggest it is only reasonable that Mini wave the extra for people who ordered before the information was released.
