Lightbulb How much did you spend on options?

Hi, was wondering how much you all spent on buying options (e.g. chilli pack, roof decals, xenons etc.) for your Mini's.

Research suggests that the average Mini owner spends around £2000 on options for their car. Is this true?

Let's compare to see if this is right or wrong.

we had a poll on this some time ago & found out that the more people spend on the base car the more they spend on options. Off memory, on average One drivers spent £1500 on options, Cooper owners spent £3000 & S owners £4500.

my current cooper was specced with full leather, chilli pack, xenons, manual air & a few other bits which in total added about £3500 which is a lot but in resale terms they are the 'right' options - ones that will be desirable to buyers.

a rule of thumb is not to spend more than 10% of the base car's value on extras - a rule which gets thrown out of the window as far as mini owners go

In resale terms, who says the options you describe are the right or most desirable options? I would think a bare S with minimal options £3,000 more for the S + £500 of desirable options would hold value better than a Cooper decked out with £3,500 of options. Both compute to the same final price.

You may well be right but I believe the Cooper retains it's value better than the S (especially a non chili S) as there is a bigger market for them (despite what using this site makes you believe). In the end it's horses for courses, I wanted an S but the mpg is far too low to make it a viable option for the mileage I do, so I chose a Cooper with works soundkit, aero kit, and other mods. By the time I trade my mileage will be high, for the cars age, so it will be difficult to see if the options have retained their value or not.

I have almost 5K of options on my current Cooper, and a they are at Woodmans rates so if I'd have gone elsewhere it could have been more.

i just meant options like full leather & air con are more desirable to most buyers than something like the aero kit or chromeline interior which are more subjective

Just added it up and I've spent £4,080 on options on my new Cooper S which I take delivery of next week - As far as I'm concerned, its well worth it - a similar spec'd BMW would be double the price in options

Gulp. Saw this thread. Did some rough calculations, re-checked them, double checked them and unfortunately the end result was the same.

How much did I spend?

Too Much!

£4,600 odd and I'm about to spend another £500. Ouch!

... but just oh, so totally worth it

About £5100, so our Cooper came to £18,320. But my wife's very happy, or will be when it arrives.

A shocking £5,300 on options represents 43% extra!

Don't work yours out Popey as a % or you might need tablets.
